I'd recommend progessive/reform for an Abrahamic religion. The hardest of the
main three to do that with is Islam. I'm not sure I could agree with some
earlier posts about the core of Islam being good and the problems being due to
extreme stances beyond proper Islam unless we say that describes Muhammad
himself.To adapt the Qur'an for a progressive/reform stance I'd need to edit out rules
not only to have slaves but encouraging it by letting the male slave owners have
sex with willing female slaves and be forgiven for setting them free (still
going strong though illegal in all countries),

Qur'an. Even most of the small percent of Muslims who are mostly liberal,
Quranists, just reject the hadiths. To make a progressive/reform spin of it and
bring it up to speed ethically you have to say it isn't even inerrant, but to
most Muslims this would be to deny the most important thing at the core of their
religion, not to mention you could cause a hostile fatwa to be leveled against
you for your trouble depending on how outspoken you were and where and when.

I sincerely hope that the Watchtower Corporation doesn't smugly and arrogantly declare themselves "superior" because of their "more enlightened" attitudes towards wo - er, "wimmin"....

The book sold out in some Canadian book stores a while ago. It has been widely distributed around the world I understand and although we may not like it, for some reason, I don't think this book will incite people to violence if the interpretation of the religion already condones what the writer is stating.
The Shafia case comes to mind - no book needed for murdering (aka honor killing) your second wife and 3 daughters ....sammies

Terry, and all, watch or rent, the movie "The Stonning of Soraya M", I cried about this poor Iranian woman, who was wrongly accused of adultry, because her husband wanted a 15 year old rich girl. A true story written by a French/Iranian newspaper reporter. Islam is cruel to woman "God made Eve stupid" according to the Quran, why expect humane treatment?
