They should just institute tithing, 10% is a big number. If they cant survive with that then they should just quit.
Is it just me or is the GB asking for money more directly.

mP, the points mentioned by Silent_Scream ARE valid points; but I think that the main "attraction" is, as always, POWER....
Couple the desire for power with a delusion that they are the ONLY ones doing "god's" will, and throw an arrogant self-righteousness into the mix; and I think that comes close to the motivation for being a member of the Governing Body.....
But as other threads have pointed out, that doesn't account for the bulk of the money....
I am intensely curious as to who IS profiting the most from this "shell game" masquerading as a religion....???

Im sorry the only valid reason is POWER, the others are dellusional. Anyone who works 30-40+ years to get those benefits and doesnt even get to retire is a fool.

Hah!! mP, the "delusional" part goes without saying...

Many people who rise to the top of a corporation don't retire - they may end up getting forced out though. My coworkers dad kept on going to work every day until he died. He was in his 90s - being the bank president was a big deal to him even though he was just a figurehead at the end (and was never more than a big fish in a little pond). I don't think many of the governing body would willingly retire even if they kept all the benefits they currently enjoy.

It may be the families of the ones who formed the the corporation at the beginnning. I remember years ago,one of the daughters of one of the orignial corporation members writing about how the President of the Organization came to their
house and celebrated Christmas when the R/F did not celebrate. I think it was the Judge. I have always felt they were the main ones getting the money. I could be wrong but I would sure like to know. As has been stated, those GB members
have it made. If I had a credit card with no limit and I didn't have to make the payments, I would be flying high. And as someone pointed out, they like the POWER!!

There is one simple rule about how much you should give. You should give according to how much value they have actually created in your life. If an organization has created a lot of value in your life, feel free to donate a lot to that organization. However, if they create little or no value in your life, you should either stint or stiff them altogether. That way, they will have to start creating value in people's lives or starve.

Mormons can get a lot of bang out of their 10% tithe JWs not so much.

i think this is just a matter of that lit attendant being a deuchebag.
my father attended the lit counter for 30+ years and would have never said a word even back when JW's paid for their books and mags. He was so humble and so kind that he would have paid any shortfall out of his own pocket without ever saying a word to anyone.
Just being a JW doesn't make one a nice person, assholes are assholes whether they are J-dubs or not
