Oh lookie! Obama's tools making excuses for him! Every logical fallacy in the book is on display here. We have everything from tu quoque to race card.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's Obama's policies that are the main reason for the reaction on the right.
OR maybe, if the attacks leveled here against Obama were actually attacks against his policies, people wouldn't think these attacks were rooted in racism.

I just have one question - what does this guy (Wright) think he is doing by waving the lanterns on his crazy-train NOW?
Could he still possibly be holding a grudge against Obama (for kicking him to the curb last election) and is trying to get back at him?

So when people make fun of Mitt Romney being a Mormon, that makes them religiously intolerant? The topic here was Reverend Wright and his church. Obama went to this church for 20 years, got married inside it, had both girls baptized in it. The left does it time and time again with the faith of Republican candidates, but when someone mentions Wright, all of a sudden it's racism. The fact is that there is a knee-jerk reaction among the president's defenders that race always has something to do with opposition to him. If you want to talk policy, then let's do that. But two can always play at this game. I've heard more talk on this forum about Mitt Romney's Mormonism than Wright. Now that there's a thread about Wright, you guys just can't take it and it's racism.

The arguments against Obama's "stand" on various issues are fine; let them stand or fall on their own merit; they're part of the jutifiable expression a living breathing democracy for which Americans can be justly proud. The sweeping intensity of those views, seemingly seeing conspiracy everywhere, are questionable though.
Just like the venom dished out to Maggie Thatcher throughout the 1980s, that which is dished out to Obama seems intensely out of proportion to what has been "done".
As for my comments about racism is the States, I take the valid point that my own country is far from perfect. We New Zealanders do lack the innate grandiosity of many Amercians in going overboard with much - as a people we are known to be "easy going" (i.e., prone to apathy - as the weak state of the JWs serves to illustrate). We also have a long way to go in terms of having a Maori as Prime Minister, although a Labour member of parliament who showed good potential to be a leader of that party torpedoed his career by purchasing hotel porn on a government credit card.
On the virtuous side, we have had two female Prime Ministers (Jenny Shipley and more recently Helen Clark for three terms).

BTW, yes, I do think the intensity of opposition to Romney among Republicans is precisely because he is a Mormon, although the substance of the opposition stands and/or falls on its own merits.

Well said Steve.

I hate to defend the WTS... bust at least they backed up most of their positions with scriptures, this is just utter nonsense.
Only so if you consider "scriptures" and "utter nonsense" to be mutually exclusive somehow.
