From the July 15th 2012 WT, page 26:

Each of us does well to
ask himself, ‘Do I immediately apply
everything I read in the Bible and in the
publications of the faithful and discreet
slave class, even when it requires making
    personal sacrifices?’—Matt. 24:45.

Yes, indeed. This is exactly how they view their publications.

In fact the WTS teaches that the bible cannot be understood without their publications and explanations..........

    The Watchtower, October 1, 1994, Page 8:

    CHANNEL TO UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE

JESUS assured us that after his death and resurrection, he would raise up a “faithful and discreet slave” that would serve as his channel of communication. (Matthew 24:45-47) The apostle Paul identified this channel to the Ephesian Christians when he wrote that “there might be made known through the congregation the greatly diversified wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose that he formed in connection with the Christ, Jesus our Lord.” (Ephesians 3:10, 11) It was the congregation of anointed Christians, born at Pentecost 33 C.E., that was entrusted with the “things revealed.” (Deuteronomy 29:29) As a group, anointed Christians serve as the faithful and discreet slave. (Luke 12:42-44) Their appointed assignment from God is to provide spiritual understanding of the “things revealed.”

Even as Bible prophecy pointed forward to the Messiah, it also directs us to the close-knit body of anointed Christian Witnesses that now serve as the faithful and discreet slave. It helps us to understand the Word of God. All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the “greatly diversified wisdom of God” can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.—John 6:68.

    Two problems:

    1) C. T. Russell is portrayed in Watchtower histories as having studied independently, evidently finding it unnecessary to identify and join himself to the supposed "faithful and discreet slave" of his day.

    2) Note the typical egregious (mis)use of the cited scripture. They are effectively equating themselves with Jesus Christ.

bennyk: "They are effectively equating themselves with Jesus Christ."

Of course they think they're equal to Christ; they consider themselves co-rulers, not under, but alongside. As someone else pointed out on another thread, the literal meaning of Christ is "anointed", which they apply to themselves as a "class." The Christ class, in other words.

I don't think they're equal at all; the litter-a-turd is to be followed before anything else. If something they write conflicts with the Bible we are supposed to believe them because, as has been discussed on many other threads here, "noo light" will shine to give us the understanding.

The truth is they say anything they want and by using the "be patient noo light will be shed" excuse they buy themselves time to hand pick scriptures to warp and twist to fit their views.

Just a prime example of a bunch of greedy men using another power grubbing groups book to get the vulnerable unsuspecting public to do their bidding.

LOST GENERATION- Very accurate analogy of the alleged " faithful slave ". They DO look at themselves on the same level of God, if not a little higher. I actually think they view themselves as God's replacement since he seems to be asleep or non-existent. The WT society leaders are extremely arrogant and quite full of themselves

Even when it requires making personal sacrifices?

Last time I looked at the basic, core Christian doctrine, I thought it was that Jesus offered up a perfect, complete sacrifice to which nothing ever need be added. Requiring personal sacrifice would make more sense in the Jewish (no Jesus) or Muslim (salvation by good works in the name of Allah) religions than Christianity (one perfect sacrifice to pay for all your sins).

If you aren't going to abide by the Bible, at least don't claim to have the monopoly on abiding by it and threatening others with death and destruction for not abiding by it.
