How big is the theme of CONTROL-LIBERATION-FREEDOM in society and history?

Last week I met an ex Circuit Overseer in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

When asking why he left, the instant response was: "the control".

    Hey talesin!

    Thanks for those.

I wonder if South Africa was the most peaceful transition on the list at the final handover point in 1994 thanks to Nelson Mandela's unbelievable insights into reconciling with an enemy who has caused one endless harm.

I wish I could be as forgiving as him - maybe one day I'll get there too (with the serpents of the Witchtower).

You're welcome! I was also thinking of the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, led by Dr. MLK, Jr.

If memory serves me correctly, the SA transition was far from peaceful. Google "necklacing", and that will give you an idea of some of the horrors. Liberty is most often hard-won.

It would be interesting to read some JW history from that perspective.

Even hard one Liberties are not, as they should be, sacrosanct, they are constantly being eroded.

Here in the U.K we are living in a Police State that is getting ever stronger, the excuse is always "Anti-terror", but I am more in terror of increased power in the hands of unaccountable people than I am of conventional terrorists.

As to the WT and its ever tightening grip on the minds and conduct of the R&F Dubs, I think that will back-fire on them big time, the generation that is growing up do not say "how high?" when told to jump, doctrine, lies whatever will not matter, they will just see that the control is not enforceable and that they are sick of it, and will walk away.

they will just see that the control is not enforceable and that they are sick of it, and will walk away.

And their inlies the true purpose of the WT - a revolving door (training ground) into apathy toward God.
