From being a JW found that the experience of approaching people when doing magazine street corner work, works great
when campaigning for a candidate you believe in. Found some really honest and hard working people running for office.
In fact, preaching house-to-house prepares one for being a polical and social activist.
After leaving I became very aware of the need for 2 avenues. 1 domestic violence as I was the reciepent of such treatment by my JW husband, and animal right as my father was so abusive to animals. I love my contribution to both. I work closely with the local Humane Society as well as a safe house for abused victims. It is interesting that both my EX and my father are " in good standing" in the cong. Abuse is very deeply seated and the cult is not only tolerant but actually supportive of such treatment.
