The first edition of The Watchtower magazine, July 1879, made the following comment on page 5 regarding how "soon" the end of this system will come:

    "Soon-very soon."

Exactly 136 years later the latest edition of The Watchtower magazine, July 2015, (paragraph 3) made the following comment on page 15 regarding how "soon" the end of this system will come:

    "Soon, very soon."

From Jwfacts, some of the dates that were erroneously predicted

....we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished near the end of A.D. 1915.

1918 ed. We anticipate that the "earthquake" will occur early in 1918, and that the "fire" will come in the fall of 1920.

The Seventh-days before the Deluge may represent seven years, from 1914 to 1921, in the midst of which "week of years' the last members of the Messiah pass beyond the veil.

most effective work in the remaining months before Armageddon."Watchtower 1941 Sep 15 p.288

1980 ....if the wicked system of this world survived until the turn of the century, which is highly improbable

"Some of that "generation" could survive until the end of the century. But there are many indications that "the end" is much closer than that!" Watchtower1984 Mar 1 pp.18-19Shortly, within our twentieth century

"He was laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century". Watchtower1989 Jan 1 p.12.

    this very time

2003 We are certainly in "the time of the end."

Wow, 136 years of being completely wrong! And never once an open honest admission of error.

But if YOU ever mess up, it's a humiliating JC for you with possible disfellowshipping and shunning.

    That's pretty fucked up.

    Let's review: It's a cult!

But isn't that the same deception that was used in early Christianity?

    Luke 21:37 NIV:

32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Try to keep people on edge, hypersensitive for a big event that never really quite arrives - it is soon, very soon. Little wonder Witnesses nap during the Watchtower Study.

49,640 days of living in "the last days of this system of thing". And now we have to wait for the rapture of the members of the governing body to take place before the Great Tribulation starts.

Early Christianity pulled the same BS for 400 years. When Alaric sacked Rome in 410 and Roman power collapsed, people could not imagine a world without strong state, and they thought that Jesus arrival is imminent. Millions of Christians from Britain to Judea were expecting the Kingdom of God to arrive to fill the political vacuum. Many of the refugees went to Jerusalem and waited. Years had passed, Roman empire totally disintegrated and no end on sight. 1605 years later, some Christians are still waiting. WT, if can last that long can pull the same scenario well to the end of the 3rd millennia.
