This is both humorous and sad. I'm watching the Borgias on SHO. Poisoning popes and cardinals who were not handy was quite a Roman past time for generations.
It is Simpsons funny. Of course, reality is not the least bit funny. When I read it, I thought it was a spoof.

I said:
Yeah, he's only been completely shunned by all his friends and family for the last 2 years because of the DF you gave him...I just can't think what the motive could be...and in on breath the victim says he had "cordial relationship" with the attacker, but earlier says he 'has nothing to do with [people] who have been disciplined by the congregation like that." these people make me want to barf.
I just want to be clear that I don't condone what the df'd guy did to the elder and his family.

If he wanted to poison them properly you'd think hed come up with something better than weedkiller.
Cynically, perhaps this was a theocratic protection for the target Elder - the poisoner had no higher education from which to understand toxicology.

Alanv- I don't condone what the guy did to the family at all, but if you think repentance works in a judicial if they want to disfellowship I can assure you that it doesn't, not at all. They tell the bros that it does, that if someone is repentant they aren't disfellowshipped but it's a lie. Outright.

It's not surprissing, in fact I'm surprissed that it hasn't happened more often. I stll disagree with it. Especially involving the family

This has featured on this forum before. This kind of promotion of the criminal things people do in response to being disfellowshipped makes my blood boil. The man not only broke the law, he put people's lives at risk.
I would not even try to understand the disfellowshipped man's motives at all nor try to justify them. He endangered not only the elder's life but the elder's chilcren as well.
No excuse whatsoever. He should face the full weight of the law.

I do not believe any of posters here neither promoting any criminal behavior nor trying to justfy any criminals but sharing FELLOWFEELING! It's like rape victims sharing their trama with fellow rape victims while discussing a case of attempted murder of a certain rape victim against his/her perpetrator. Of course you will never understand unless you were the victim yourself neither will try to understand its nature while keep in mind that Crime is Never Ok.
No excuse whatsoever. He should face the full weight of the law.-Sure he should and so should the elders for their Crimes!

Okay, I get your mindset - but to compare this crime to what rape victims go through is trivialising the trauma of rape. We all know about the horrors of vigilante feminist rape-justice squads (e.g., if the man appears to be guilty, he must be - no need for a trial - let's tar and feather him).
You also play loose and fast with the word "victim". Who really is the victim here? No question: it's the elder whose life was endangered. Do you know the exact circumstances surrounding the disfellowshipping? Why automatically conclude it was not for good reason?
I simply disagree with your extending understanding - and compassion - to the disfellowshipped man's criminal acts and the automatic pushing aside of the wellbeing of the elder and his children.
