I went to the ASSembly

I didn't think I'd ever have a reason to go back to the assembly but my sister was getting baptised so I told her I would go. I would still like to keep on decent terms with my family who is still in. Otherwise, I would have said no.

There were only a five people that got baptised (four kids and one elderly person). Let's just say I remember why I stopped going. I opted to stay for the whole thing. The dubs were definitely a lot friendlier than they were when I went to the memorial for the sister who died a month or so ago. I have a small beard as well as long hair and a sister said "You should come back to the meetings. Then we'll work on cutting that beard and trimming that hair." I asked "Why would we have to do that?" "You need to look presentable." I trim my beard so it looks quite nice and my hair is long but it's not ragged looking. It just reminds me of one reason why I don't go anymore.

I just wish I could have convinced my sister to not get baptised. She's only 11! How can you make a life-altering decision like that at 11 years old? I did it at 12 so I see where her head is though. Gotta do whatever to make the parents happy. Sad thing is that I know some day she'll be in the same position that I was. Going through the motions, and wishing you hadn't made such a stupid decision.

Well, I am sorry your sister got strong-armed by your parents into baptism. Perhaps your sister will be rebellious and follow your example in fading away from the meetings- before she ends up marrying a JW.

It was really nice of you to go see her get baptized. You're a good big brother and I'm sure she loves you a lot. You'll be there for her when she's older and wiser.

One of the hardest things to endure when you're out is a young JW kid's baptism. UGH! Definitely the right move to go for your sister though. Stay as close to her as you can. You'll be in the best position to help her out of the cult.

She's a smart kid... I'm sure she'll figure it all out. When she does, I'll be there to help her.

Hey bro, long time. Your right man. Support her now so you can support her later when it all comes crashing down. peacetoyouandyours paulnotsaul

I didn't know sisters were elders now. Apparently she is part of the "we" who is going to straighten you out

Yeah dude it's been a while. Been in the process of moving (again). Hope you and the family are doing well.

Yeah, I guess she felt she needed to sort me out herself since the elders haven't been able to.

...and a sister said "You should come back to the meetings. Then we'll work on cutting that beard and trimming that hair." I asked "Why would we have to do that?" "You need to look presentable."

"If looking 'presentable' is important, perhaps I should come back and help most of the congregation with diet and exercise. Most of y'all look like you're planning to audition for 'Biggest Loser' or something."

Always keep your cool when a young person gets baptized into the JW organization. Remember: The very first step in leaving the JWs is getting baptized. For many, many young ones it's down hill from there.
