It's hard to imagine a better proof that this is a cult and that being a Jehovah's Witness is an addiction, little different than an addiction to drugs.

No matter what happens, the End is always soon. Kids leaving ? Lack of elders? Lack of contributions? Selling off Branch Offices? Laying off Bethelites? No evidence of decline is ever recognized as decline for these addicted people.

It is like an addiction, it's like an abusive relationship as well. Like a drug addict, they know it's bad but will defend it anyway. Like an abusive partner, they are being hurt but will defend them anyway. They will never look at the harm that is caused, they just bend over backwards to defend it. Deny deny deny, and alienate anyone who refuses to deny with them.

The public magazine will get reduced to slogans- 'You're Toast'

I just said "bye" to my morning dump. It's no less significant than anything the watchtower has to say.

I know of a Super Brain Dead JW Zombie who told me "there are a Lot of changes going on with the org, something's happening, something Big, I can feel it" And ofcourse she believe's Big J is bringing the big A within a couple of years (damn! I wanted to see the 2014 world cup soccer games :( ) and cannot at all relate to what all of the changes really are: property sell offs, mag reduction's to what it really is: Basic Corporate Restructuring to Streamline operations to cut costs.

Rereading this persons comment, it now strikes me as eerily culty, like a Heaven's Gate member signing off or something.

Kind of reminds me of the scene in "The Life of Brian" where everything that he did was interpreted as a SIGN ! The crowd was determined that he was The Messiah and nothing he could do would dissuade them.

Today the WTS, like any publishing company has to ring changes to cope with a downturn in the economy but the indoctrinated faithful see everything as a sign that the end is very near....

The rush to excitement among witnesses about downsizing is drearily reminiscent of the early 1970s when we had a series of (I think they were called) "Kingdom News" campaigns:

We "simply" handed householders a tract about the nearness of the end and left. There was excited talk among us rank and file at assemblies then about how near the end must now be because our message was now short and sharp.

Even then, however, it was not the first time this kind of desperately sensationalist tactic was used (e.g., the Millions Now Living Will Never Die campaign of the 1920s, among others).

Maybe the Organisation now realises they have not been chosen by Jesus, that they are indeed a false prophet, so they are quietly winding up operations, whist they sell the Kingdom Halls built and paid for by locals, whilst they get to keep all the money, and do a runner, then one Sunday Morning, all the worlds Witnesses turn up at the Kingdom halls to find a notice of eviction pinned on the door signed by the GB with the single word "Bye!"

They will spin almost any change in the WT as something positive.
