Why do some crave to be thus controlled? Worse still, why do they insist you and I must ALSO be controlled??

Because they are insecure little people who feel safer following rules.

"The only thing separating the Body who "Governs" from those governed is the passive acceptance of that fate by defeated non-thinking sheep."

"Look up--you can't see God--ohhh noooo, but--you can see the imperious Governing Body sniffing your backside. Assume the position! Better get to like it because it's coming at you 24/7 from now on!

Feel their enthusiasm pounding into your backside as they fill you with their own stagnant seed of Truth? Grin and bear it....grin and bear it.

Thank you sir, may I please have another?"

    This seems awfully rude .

When I was a Witness I wasn't "a defeated non-thinking sheep" Who passively accepted anything and I dont believe that most Witnesses do. They believe what they preach. Alot accept it as the truth as an adult at the door. I had to accept it as i was raised in it. To not accept it meant going against my parents and God.

I understand your reaction. I really do.

Can we walk around to the other side of the stage and look from another angle?

When you say "non-thinking" you mean you WERE thinking. Okay. I get that.

    But, thinking about what?

If we aren't making decisions based on reality we aren't thinking for real---we are IMAGINING.

We deserved to have facts when we make decisions. We have a RIGHT TO REALITY. The JW "Truth" is not reality. It is imagination. It is Opinion.

Falsely representing opinion and imagination as ABSOLUTE FACT is deplorable.

    Think of the following scenario.

A doctor walks in to the patient lying in the hospital bed and says to them:

"You are holding your own. Just rest up and you will be back home with your family in no time."

Compare that scene with the next.

Same doctor. Same patient. Same hospital room. Same day.

"You are dying. You may have a few weeks. Get your affairs in order. Say your goodbyes."

Is that same patient going to act the same after statement number one as they would after statement number two?

    Hardly.

What Jehovah's Witnesses do with their "Truth" is walk into everybody's personal space and inform them (with the Highest Possible Authority):

"You are going to die! Armageddon is a few weeks away."

This is NOT reality. It is presented as though it is the ONLY reality.

You were not given FACTS to think about.

So, you weren't thinking so much as REACTING to bad news.

    Your imagination did the rest.

You were defeated. You were a sheep. But, through no fault of your own.

Without the facts we only think we are making good decisions.

Terry wrote: Why go back to Metaphysics when Physics is the more accurate?

Metaphysics is a term that's hard to pin down, but I would argue that it shouldn't be confused with the supernatural. In a philosophical sense, physics explains how we exist, while metaphysics seeks to explain why we exist.

Supernaturalism was an attempt to explain how things worked before the scientific method was developed. Though we now know the answers to these how questions, the why questions still remain for many. This metaphysical inquiry applies to non-theological philosophies as well as theology.

Other than that point, I agree with your post.

I think I was thinking. I thought about the information that was presented to me. I thought about it alot. Eventually that's why I left. It wasn't because someone else told me something different or revealed some facts that I didn't know. I didn't leave because I was expelled. I discussed the teachings with the elders and came to the conclusion I could no longer support the view they held. This took time, like finding the beginining of the tape on a roll of clear sticky tape.

Neither the Koran nor the Bible offers escape from eternal control!
So, we must bow our head and submit, obey, feign abject delight in our lowly state and send skyward the awkward and endless praises as empty as the promises
    of eternity.
    WHY?

Well said Terry, Christopher Hitchins would be proud. This is the great debate of our time, many are now realizing that we can safely ditch the crutches of religious totalitarianism, and fear, and really start to make this world a better place.

Sure, there is an historically deeper meaning to Metaphysics. I'm spoiled by almost 6 years working in a bookstore section which included Metaphysics separate from Philosophy and containing mostly the crackpot books such as Past Lives, Remote Viewing, vampires, werewolves, Goddess worship, UfO-ology, crypto-zology, alien abductions and an assortment of other nonsense.

The creepy assortment of people who wandered into that section said plenty to me!

The word I use for what Metaphysics once was is simply a branch of philosophy: Epistemology which asks the question: What do we know and how do we know it.

All of which has been ably transcended (for the most part) by science itself.

Besides, how legitimate is a question that begins: "Why are there Werewolves?" :)

I see your point, however, do we really want high schools teaching this stuff?
