Guess that blows the idea out the window that 69 year old guys are harmless...or their behaviour should be treated any differently than someone younger.

I'm glad they caught this guy before he managed to do real damage in someones life.

This is one of the reasons I don't like Facebook. You are posting pictures of your family for "friends" to see. They can figure out where you live, especially if you own a house (your county's property tax records are all on-line). If one of your friends happens to be someone you don't know well, and a pedophile; you are putting your children (and you) at risk.

    Thanks, Rebel.

As far as I know, this thing was never a JW, but has some relatives who are or were at one time, in the cult. Someone on my facebook informed me of its arrest (for any pedo, to me, is an 'it'), so I informed the press.

I was also told that it has been trolling the exJW boards for quite some time. As it is a convicted pedophile, I feel it is my duty to spread the word.

skeeter -- that is an extreme position, and, to be direct, one that comes from ignorance. For example, I do not put pictures of my family, my email or my phone number on the message board at the supermarket. I treat the 'book' in the same fashion. Facebook is no more dangerous than this message board, if correct security measures are taken, and it can be a valuable tool for people who are isolated and have no family.

Those who practice risky behaviour in real life, do the same online. I, for one, am cautious, and I urge all others to be the same.

Perhaps someone should start a thread about security on Facebook. I have lost my taste for posting atm, so I leave it in your hands. But please, do not spread ignorance.

And just so we are clear on this matter, I do not consider Facebook safe for children, unless it is set up and constantly monitored by informed parents who are the guardians of the password (ie, children cannot sign in from any other location than the home PC, and YES, you can set up an account that will only permit you to sign in from a specific computer).
