  I will be going out and hiking the trails in the morning to get conditioned for a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains in two weeks!

  Stealth, make sure you take a full day to get accostumed to altitude before you start hiking in the mountains.

  I've had the last two saturdays off and haven't even given it a second thought. Why the hell would I want to waste my precious time off?

  I do my 2-4 hours a month but only before or after the Saturday/Sunday meeting (depending on where we are in the annual rotation). If I'm taking the time to get dressed for the meeting, I might as well show my face and do a RV or two.

  And no, we never go out on holiday weekends. Never.

  Oh yes, I made that mistake when we went to Yosemite and went up Glacier Point 7,000 ft they day after getting there. I got so sick it was hard just driving back down the mountain.

  The highest point in the Smokies is Clingman's dome, almost the same elivation but have never experienced the same problem there as I did in Yosemite.

  Maybe altitude sickness is like getting sea sick? I used go on dive boats all the time and laugh at the guys hanging off the back of the boat throwing up, then one time it happened to me too.

  Edit to add: Field Service Sucks! (Just to stay on topic, I would rather get altitude sickness before going out in field service.)

  I will be out in the field tomorrow with my family doing some river rafting.

  I plan on studying the articles tonight.

  I'll start with street work, bus stops at 6am, and end before the meeting for field service. Knock on doors, take a lunch break. Do calls in the afternoon. Come home and lament how all the people I spoke with tomorrow, are all going to die. Well I'd better take note of the address so I can stake a claim after they're killed and the birds eat them.
