This changes nothing for JWs. To the JWs it will be seen as the Mormons being divided and unbiblical. The JWs, in their minds, will still reign supreme.

Even if droves of JWs started to come out as gay, nothing would change. There would just be more dramas on it at the DC.

The LDS Apostles have taken their stand so expect another 2 decades before they get 'New Revelation' like they did with Blacks. The GB are even worse after all God told them through channels what to think about sex

There's a movie, "Latter Days", that shows the struggle of a homosexual Mormon youth. It is EXCELLENT and when I first saw it, I cried. Closeted or former JW GLBT can defin relate to this film, and perhaps some who spew forth hatred should take a look, just once, to see what people unlike themselves have to deal with.

One of my bumper stickers read: "Equal Rights are NOT Special Rights." Just because we want to be treated with respect and dignity does not mean we are trying to shove an agenda down anyone's throat. Although sometimes you ask yourself~What the hell does it take to have some people actually listen and TRY to understand?

Latter Days is one of my top-five alltime favorite movies, and AK McGRATH is right to say that many JWs who can relate. Reflecting back on a point that Diest raised, I would venture to think that the percentage of gay JWs is about the same as in the general population. If there is a marked difference it might lie in the number of gay JWs who actually got married. The pressure to marry is great in the organization although not as bad as it is in the LDS Church. Still, it does exist and combined with the old WTS propaganda that marriage was the "cure" to this malady, I don't doubt that many took that route, hoping matters would resolve themselves.

The WTS has finally abandoned the 'marriage as cure' talk although you can still hear it in talks taken from old talk outlines. Now the party line is celibacy, celibacy, celibacy and the hope that the cure will be administered in the new world. But the thrust of this is that LGBT people really have no place in the WTS tent. More and more of them are realizing this and have headed for the exit. There is no point in remaining in association with those who regard you as a non-person.

Yada yada 2 has voiced the common belief of many JWs on this issue. There is no doubt in my mind that the Governing Body feels the same.

Quendi - well said; I agree. The first thought that went through my mind is Yada Yada 2 is reflecting the knee-jerk views of the JWs on this issue. Frankly, it is good that he feels able to express his views - at least he is upfront. It is interesting, though, the way he reacts like a bull to a red flag. Why doesn't he "just" ignore these threads - no one expects him to read them.

On another level, his comments provide a glimpse into the mindset of others who would not know what it is like to be treated unfairly solely on the basis of sexual orientation. They see everything from a point of view of already having basic human rights. In some countries, gay couples have no rights whatsoever: no property inhertiance rights, no right to their partner being their next of kin in event their partner falls ill and is hospitalized and so on. Until equality is achieved on a par with heterosexuals there will be a need for threads such as this.

I think that Yaba Daba (or whatever the name is) is trying to make a valid point but is coming across a bit crass.

The world is a big place. Until you have seen poverty with your own eyes, it's hard to imagine.

Tonight while purchasing a book I was asked if I wanted to donate to a child's reading program. She said "it's a good cause". I didn't say it out loud but inside I got quite angry because not a week ago I had homeless children around me who were 5-7 years old begging for food at 10pm at night in a lousy neighbourhood - banging on my cab door. Is reading in the first world more important than those kids? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. :(

People are continually faced with contradictions. Fighting for gay rights instead of feeding the poor. Playing around on the internet instead of helping your community. Where does it end? I really don't have any answers.

Oh, and by the way, thank your lucky stars that the WTBTS does not allow gay people - they're a frigging high control group, they're doing you a favour!

I'm so sick of hearing about (black people, slaves, women, immigrants, disabled persons, political prisoners etc.) and their precious rights and ridiculous pride marches. No one's treating them badly anymore or ostracising them. It's not like there's apartheid against (black people, slaves, women, immigrants, disabled persons, political prisoners etc.) or anything. What do they want? Poor diddums (nigg@rs, bitches, wet b@cks, r@tards, c@mmies) we demand the right to marry each other. Pathetic.

Find something real to protest about instead of (whether you can vote, whether you are free, whether you are barred from entering buildings and have access to services, whether or not you can meet as a group, whether or not you can get an abortion). How about (black people, slaves, women, immigrants, disabled persons, political prisoners etc.) marching for the rights of tens of millions of impoverished, malnourished children everywhere? Or (black people, slaves, women, immigrants, disabled persons, political prisoners etc.) marching for an end to global banking and corporate greed and corruption.

    yours truly,
