What bothers me about all the headlines that I've seen in that " ... Jehovah's Witnesses are guilty ...", or some such. I can hear the sheeples now, "Oh, this is just another incident of persecution because one of our members sinned".
The fact is, it's Watchtower who appears to be mostly responsible -- holds the primary culpability. It is the corporation's leadership (not the rank and file) who dictated the policy that got them into this mess.

The policy needs to be changed. This will not topple the organization but can certainly change policy
and protect children.

I don't think it gives enough attention to what the policy is/was. This needs to be very clear. If not, then it will just look to the "friends" like the org is being sued for something one perv did.

Jim McCabe, an attorney for the congregation, said he planned to appeal the jury's decision."The Jehovah's Witnesses hate child abuse and believe it's a plague on humanity," McCabe told the Tribune. "Jonathan Kendrick was not a leader or a pastor, he was just a rank-and-file member. This is a tragic case where a member of a religious group has brought liability on the group for actions he alone may have taken."

I think your right Watson. I need to see the letter to the Elders that has been referred to re: the policy.
I don't think for a minute JW's condone child molestation. I really don't know how they let themselves into this mess.
The offenses they handle in judicial committees, I imagine most are not criminal. The laws in the US are doing so much more
to protect the children. We are learning these people usually cannot be rehabilitated.
Praying, going to meetings, reading WT and Awakes will not rehabilitate a child molester.
Maybe in the "new system" things will be different. But we are still in this one.
You can bet the Elders that know of child molesters will safeguard their own children from them.

The organization always emphasizes not bringing reproach on Jehovah's name....I say this...JEHOVAH CAN TAKE IT! They just want to protect the biz.
I wonder how many elders will be losing sleep over the next year as they look back on how many times they held back on "bringing reproach on Jehovah's name" by not reporting the pervs. The threat of law suits is going to bring high er anxiety.
