Doing background checks would only slow their "growth"; they're desperate for converts and don't want anything to hinder someone stupid enough to join.

I keep my background check current anyway. It looks good on resumes and cuts down on red tape when you are volunteering. I am actually surprised more jobs don't ask for one. To me it is as important as having my first aid up to date.

My sister teaches little kids Roman Catholic theology. She not only had to get a state background check but she had to attend diocesan training. They are not allowed certain physical movements under any circumstances. Two people must teach the class.

I volunteered to teach civics and legal principles in the Philadelphia schools. For an occasional visit, I was vetted. We had to attend mandatory workshops about working with children.

I see this as primarily another control issue on the Society's behalf. Worldly sources, even if acted correctly, cannot be correct b/c they are illegitimate in the eyes of the WT. The Witness take on pedophilia is not central to their doctrine, any more than the Selma and Steve or quoted Nuremberg Tribynabl convict had anything to do with doctrine. All were superflous. I grew up with overseers. Two people were not needed as witnesses. Law enforcement has all these resources that the WT cannot duplicate to investigate and ascertain the truth. It is not absolute science but it has evolved and served society nicely over the long haul. So why endanger children if it is necessaryt?

Suffer the little children to come to me. Jesus quotes have no influence compared to some odd Old Testament verse.
