I have a question about the whole ark thing... As someone who is not (and has never been) a Witness, I'm not 100% on what their teachings are with the ark... I used to think that surely they saw it as a metaphor - though I understand now that they believe it to be a literal, accurate thing!!??

I just wonder how it is explained to the Witnesses in order to get them to believe that Noah realy got 2 of EVERY SINGLE SPECIES!!!!! It's not like '2 cats, 2 horses' - but 2 Ragdolls, 2 Burmese, 2 Arabs, 2 Thoroughbreds etc. Besides them not being able to fit (not to mention the smell after a few days - and food for all of them!) - what about the animals that are only native to a particular country..?

Sorry if I'm a bit off topic Blondie, but seeing as there is so much mentioned about the flood - it triggered me to ask..?? :)

Using the Search on JWN could yield some extensive discussions on this Bells. Here's some quotes from WT publications (remember just reporting not supporting) Checking on the internet for non-jw, non-religious sites could add a new dimensions.

    *** it-1 p. 327 Flood of Noah’s Day ***

Could the Ark Have Held All the Animals?

It is true that encyclopedias refer to over a million species of animals. But Noah was instructed to preserve only representatives of every “kind” of land animal and flying creature. Some investigators have said that just 43 “kinds” of mammals, 74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles could have produced the great variety of species of these creatures that are known today. The ark had about 40,000 cu m (1,400,000 cu ft) of usable space—ample for the passenger list

    *** it-1 pp. 164-165 Ark ***

Ample Carrying Capacity. The passenger list of the ark was quite impressive. Besides Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives, living creatures “of every sort of flesh, two of each,” were to be taken aboard. “Male and female they will be. Of the flying creatures according to their kinds and of the domestic animals according to their kinds, of all moving animals of the ground according to their kinds, two of each will go in there to you to preserve them alive.” Of the clean beasts and fowls, seven of each kind were to be taken. A great quantity and variety of food for all these creatures, to last for more than a year, also had to be stowed away.—Ge 6:18-21; 7:2, 3.

The “kinds” of animals selected had reference to the clear-cut and unalterable boundaries or limits set by the Creator, within which boundaries creatures are capable of breeding “according to their kinds.” It has been estimated by some that the hundreds of thousands of species of animals today could be reduced to a comparatively few family “kinds”—the horse kind and the cow kind, to mention but two. The breeding boundaries according to “kind” established by Jehovah were not and could not be crossed. With this in mind some investigators have said that, had there been as few as 43 “kinds” of mammals, 74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles in the ark, they could have produced the variety of species known today. Others have been more liberal in estimating that 72 “kinds” of quadrupeds and less than 200 bird “kinds” were all that were required. That the great variety of animal life known today could have come from inbreeding within so few “kinds” following the Flood is proved by the endless variety of humankind—short, tall, fat, thin, with countless variations in the color of hair, eyes, and skin—all of whom sprang from the one family of Noah.

These estimates may seem too restrictive to some, especially since such sources as TheEncyclopediaAmericana indicate that there are upwards of 1,300,000 species of animals. (1977, Vol. 1, pp. 859-873) However, over 60 percent of these are insects. Breaking these figures down further, of the 24,000 amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, 10,000 are birds, 9,000 are reptiles and amphibians, many of which could have survived outside the ark, and only 5,000 are mammals, including whales and porpoises, which would have also remained outside the ark. Other researchers estimate that there are only about 290 species of land mammals larger than sheep and about 1,360 smaller than rats. (TheDelugeStoryinStone, by B. C. Nelson, 1949, p. 156; TheFloodintheLightoftheBible,Geology, andArchaeology, by A. M. Rehwinkel, 1957, p. 69) So, even if estimates are based on these expanded figures, the ark could easily have accommodated a pair of all these animals.

I think - for me personally - this teaching takes the cake. Even if I was studying and believing everything else I'd heard up until this - this would be the end of that belief!

Did they really compare fat and skinny people with different coloured hard to different species of animals!? What the hell!? I am flabbergasted.

Thanks Blondie - and I will take a bit of a look around and search for things on this site (sorry for being lazy - I knew you'd probably have something on hand - a wealth of knowledge!!) ;)

"Some investigators have said that just 43 “kinds” of mammals, 74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles could have produced the great variety of species of these creatures that are known today."

Yes, and these 'investigators' are called evolutionary biologists. Odd how they fail to mention the many species that have gone extinct in the last 4000 years besides the ones that have 'evolved' from these "kinds."

This articles weighs so heavily on speculation piled on top of fictional accounts of the flood, Moses, and Christians in first century Jerusalem. Why didn't they just go ahead and use the story of Goldilocks to prove how he protects children from predators... oh right, we're talking about WT. They have no interest in protecting children from predators.

Q16 So they(GB) will make clear the meaning of those instructions

when the time comes for us to follow.(When the tribulation starts)

They have the nerve. They think they are God.All their instructions are meaningless

    *See Watchtower,January 15,2000 page 13 para18

Yet many R&F buy this crap and fallow these poor helpless men.

The cultness was on full display yesterday at my congregation. It was really strange to sit there and listen to comments about obeying blindly and being willing to sacrifice everything on a moments notice. I never thought the WTS would put together a series of compounds but after today's comments from the locals, it seemed that if they did, a good percentage would flock to them.

It's the first time in a long time that I've seen this congregation get super culty. Normally, they're pretty pragmatic (as far as JWs go).

BTW - Thanks for your comments Blondie. I read every week although don't comment much.

Thanks for the review BLONDIE. This was an specially painful one for me. The combination of: throwing all kinds of made up numbers of how long Noah waited/how he got all of the animals in the world on the ark in a week/ Gog of Magog attacks! It was like listening to grown people talk about a fight between space aliens and fairies, and a marshmallow that once enveloped the solar system.

    It's all about them - "Jehovah's people" - isn't it?

Shameful and disgusting, disgusting and shameful.

    Good job, as usual, Blondie.

The scary thing for me is in about every study article:

    WTS = God

    WTS = Jesus

You cannot get to either without going through the organization. Remember if jws really imitate Jesus and his followers they will not blindly follow their religious leaders

(1 John 4:1) 4 Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.

And here the WTS clearly and arrogantly states:

(Matthew 15:7-14) 7 YOU hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU, when he said, 8 ‘This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. 9 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.’” 10 With that he called the crowd near and said to them: “Listen and get the sense of it: 11 Not what enters into [his] mouth defiles a man; but it is what proceeds out of [his] mouth that defiles a man.” 12 Then the disciples came up and said to him: “Do you know that the Pharisees stumbled at hearing what you said?” 13 In reply he said: “Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted. 14 LET them be. Blind guides is what they are. If, then, a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

*** w94 10/1 p. 8 The Bible—A Book Meant to Be Understood ***Even as Bible prophecy pointed forward to the Messiah, it also directs us to the close-knit body of anointed Christian Witnesses that now serve as the faithful and discreet slave. It helps us to understand the Word of God. All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the “greatly diversified wisdom of God” can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.—John 6:68.

Deliver, from what? First, I am not willing to do all that work, just so a group of scumbags that have worked so hard to ruin my life can get into the New Dark Ages as a group. That alone is enough to turn me right to Satan.

Again, here they go again with the stock examples. Just because they cobbled together a few incidents where something happened doesn't mean it will happen today. What do they all have in common? Noah, Moses, the Israelites in Jerusalem in 70 CE--even if you can trust a word in the LIE-ble, it was a few selected people that were "delivered". Mostly, they were Jews. Are you a Jew? If so, are you involved with a group of God's chosen people? If not, or you aren't even a Jew, this is not going to affect you in any way because, every time the LIE-ble has any stories about deliverance, it was either Jews or their forebearers that were supposedly delivered.

Also, all these incidents happened before your time. Are you living in the time before 70 CE? Unless they started a new calendar with February 14, 2012 as the Year 1 CE to mark the beginning of the Age of Aquarius, I don't think so. Just because it happened once before, or a few times before, doesn't mean it will happen again. Just because someone else was delivered doesn't mean you will be, especially if everyone that was delivered was of one race or one nationality, and you are of a totally different nationality and era.

Rubbish articles like this Washtowel rag make me glad I didn't attend.
