What is a dedicated actor? You mean he was baptized? I would subsitiute "mediocre" for dedicated.

I didn't know they were getting divorced. He's got quite the track record with relationships...

Obviously he is deluded by a cult. On top of that he may be suffering from a serious illness, which his cult denies the existence of and discourages treatment. I have wondered if he has Bipolar Disorder, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

If this is the case, living with him must be trying. I'm betting he was manicky and super charming when he started dating Katie, and it seemed fun to her. Being swept off your feet by an attractive, hugely famous actor you crushed on as a girl must be quite the experience.

I was watching the above clip when it struck me - This guy is Bi-polar! No question in my mind. It fits the diagnosis to a T, including the religious fixation.

Glander, you should check out some behind the scenes stuff for movies Tom Cruise was in and the lengths he would go to to make sure he was doing the most he could to fulfill his role in the movies he was in. Sure he hams it up sometimes (Top Gun) but he puts a lot of work into the roles he takes.

    Cedars,

You should read Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography.

    http://www.amazon.com/Tom-Cruise-An-Unauthorized-Biography/dp/0312359861/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1341078577&sr=1-2&keywords=tom+cruise%2Bscientology

It is really a good book, and reveals how Tom was a serious controlling person who wanted fame and power and fell right into the lap of Scientology's headmaster David Miscavige. I actually came away with a better impression of Tom, as the book is not unfair, but very revealing. I think he is still a good actor, though devoid of warmth.

Tom Cruise wants power. A couple of years ago he started making certain moves to protect his interest APART from Scientology in case this would happen (which he cleasrly saw in advance.) MissCavige's MELTDOWN.

I personally do not see him as a victim at all... rather an opportunist. Just my opinion. :-))

Thanks Randy, I may well check out that book.

I suppose the culpability of cult leaders is an interesting topic all of its own. However, I can't help but watch the video above, and see a man deserving of my sympathy.

It seems that Katie's desire to protect her daughter from Scientology IS motivating the decision to divorce...
