Only a matter of time, dear FHN (the greatest of love and peace to you, dear one!). Only a matter of time.

You won't see it so much door to door, but there is a lot of informal witnessing.

I know an atheist who worships boobs. Seriously, God [don't believe], boobs[ worship].

Not me by the way, although I've been known as a boob man.

"Religious" is one of those words, just like "spiritual."

If people insist that you are "religious," they are probably saying you are pious, devout, and/or godly. Of course, you feel that it means you are concerned with/connected with a particular religion or religion in general as to holidays, rituals, observances, etc.

If a group of atheists are devout and enjoy a bit of ritual or recognize some kind of observances, and YOU want to apply the term in a way that you see it, I see no problem with that, just as I see no problem with THEM applying their idea of the term to you.

I have not seen atheists bowing to an alter of Charles Darwin or Richard Dawkins. I don't know of atheists who do not eat a certain food because some factor of Science or the Universe in general has declared them unclean. Most atheists are satisfied with judges performing their weddings or getting some ordained minister who will leave out the heavy terms of belief. Most funerals have family or friends say what they want and atheists might allow the funeral director to deliver a generic talk.

I am a "spiritual" atheist and I don't care if people object to my saying it. I am not "religious" (in my opinion) but might consider it a compliment if someone thinks I am devout in my determination to get a sense of what the universe means, and how we are all one family that should be at peace. I am not interested in chanting or saying prayers of any kind. I have never been a patriot since my awakening after leaving the JW's, but am a world citizen that believes in a form of Karma. Not a mystical Karma, but more like positivite people seeking positivity tend to find it, while negative people seeking negativity tend to find it. "Spiritual" to me means anything concerning those things that are not "secular." If it ain't about the job and paying the bills and getting by in life's treadmill, then it's "spiritual."

You can care for humanity and the earth whether you are Atheist, Agnostic or a Believer in a Diety. The important thing is to be an activist in caring for humanity and the earth.

Thank you, Jer. My point was to see if some would allow themselves to "see" that, just as, of course, atheists can be religious... even "spiritual" as you state... a believer can be non-religious (if one is applying that word in the "traditional" sense). That some got as "upset" about the comparison as they did (which they will now pile on and deny) is interesting.

Oh, most "believers" are totally non-religious. They go to no church, are not members of any of them. If they celebrate holidays, it's in a gift-giving way or just as fun for the children (and perhaps the adults). Tons of them believe in something, but don't really know much about the Bible or the Quran or what Hindus and Buddhists believe or any of that stuff.

Shit or get off the pot, OTWO. According to the Protocols of the Elders of the Galapagos Council of The Temple of Almighty Science, you MUST worship at the altar of Darweinstein, dedicated yourself to the idea if they had been alive at the same time, Einstein and Darwin would probably have had gay sex while discussing the true nature of gravity and then, only then, will you be truly atheist and free yourself of this "spiritual" non-sense.

Seriously, Einstein would bang anything that moved in his vicinity.

Yeah . . . "spiritual" is to "religious" what "escort" is to "whore."
