"Scriptural divorce"

Actually, Jesus didn't say that adultery was reason for divorce, he said that FORNICATION was grounds for divorce.

    What's the difference?

You commit adultery by looking at pornography, but that isn't fornication. Adultery is simply the act of lusting for someone else, whereas fornication is when you actually act on that lust with a willing partner. If people were allowed to divorce simply for adultery, no marriage would stand. Of course, adultery is still wrong, but it is actual fornication that breaks the "one flesh" bond, and frees the person from the marriage. This is why Jesus said "fornication" instead of "adultery" as grounds for divorce.

even if he was just there to repair her plumbing.

NeonMadMan -- great choice of wording . . . . in fact, most gals need their plumbing worked on occasionally. Some more often than others. (PTL!)

I wondered this same thing... If a spouse was looking at porn, that would constitute adultery of the heart according to Jesus. However, in Watchtower world, there would be a LOT of divorces over such a thing because a lot of JW men watch porn. So much so that a special letter had to be sent to the elders on how to deal with it and specifically on which types of porn and how much watching of it would require a Judicial Committee.

As far as I'm concerned, when it came to my marriage, my husband cheated on me first by watching porn in secret and not "rendering me my due" (to quote the JW lingo). After that, I pretty much gave up on our marriage and didn't care anymore and formed a relationship (strictly non-physical, but emotional) with someone else. It was all downhill from there.

The WTBTS has gone back and forth on what constitutes scripturally free over the years. In the 60s the favorite Farm animal or a gay lover was not grounds for a scriptural divorce. Heck a large portion of Bethel were rooming with known homosexuals so everyone would have been "free".

Then it swung to being alone with someone of the opposite sex for an hour or so got some people "free". Well that didn't work out well, some fix-it types, and business conference attendees at hotels got "set-up". I heard of a Hotel mgr JW getting set-up..yes..he was at a hotel all night...with women on premises I imagine.

Then I knew of a brother who got an erection during a massage.- From a licensed practioner.no hanky panky..no sex. His wife was declared free and he was disfellowshipped because he said the whole idea was crazy (unrepentant!!!).

The latest I read was before taking my leave was "all night" with 2 witnesses. OR if it was unbeliever...a sworn statement by the "believer". hummmm...... I guess day sleepers get a free pass. PORN? It was incredible how many angry teens rat their JW parents (elders) out for porn collections!!! lol!! Who cares?

A wife in this situation wouldn’t be allowed to be at the JC, so she would never find out what her husband had said to the elders, or if these elders are watching pornography themselves.

When her husband commits fornication, he will blame her for not giving him his marital due.

If she divorces him first, because she doesn’t fancy having sex with a man that watches pornography she will be the one blamed as well.

So basically she is guilty no matter what.

Apparently scriptural divorce is what a group of pornography - watching elders decide it is.
