After I got over my initial reaction (Who the hell is Anderson Cooper?), I was struck with two other questions. Who cares? and Why?
There seems to be an odd attitude among some people that 'if xyz is gay, then that makes it good/bad' (depending on the persons' perspective). This is as equally dull as when teenage girls get disappointed when they learn that some pop star is gay, as if up until then they had a chance.
