The episode of Law & Order SVU. in which a J W congo posted bail ( I nearly wrote Baal ! dub throwback moment) for a criminal type made me laugh out loud.. Were they trying to imply that J W 's would protect a potential rapist? Whatever, it had no grounding in reality. Even it were the COBE's son, they would not use cong funds for that sort of thing.

Farkel is right , as usual, and if that is all they know about them, then what is the good of all the hours of door-knocking?

There have been documentaries about people who want to live forever, c ryonics and stuff. Did they mention the millions of J W's who believe they will live forever? No..not a bit. They do not know that simple truth about them.

I have the feeling that the Watchtower is not very interested in the worldlies really knowing what life is like when you're inside. If we knew, only a bunch of people would join. And then, for many people, Jehovah's witnesses are just a somehow crazy sort of evangelicals. "The ones who sell you magazines and say they won't accept transfusions, right?"

I watched the Law and Order episode and I knew the person writing the script had no idea about Jehovah's witnesses because the Watchtower's reaction would have been to deny anything had happened.

Other than what you have mentioned, all I can mention is a scene from "Coming to America", with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. The father of the girl Murphy likes goes to the door and slams it in the face of his daughter's former boyfriend. When they ask him who it was, he says "Oh, Jehovah's witnesses".

An episode of Family Feud last year,,, it's on youtube. I may not have the question worded exactly the same, but it went something like this:

    Q. When the doorbell rings, who willwill hide out from and not answer the door?

    #1 Answer = Jehovah's Witnesses!

hahaha, I thought Harvey would bust a gut!

Also, from the movie "Friday" (classic and tooo funny movie)

Well, if the guy accused of child molesting/rape was a JW, they most likely would've bailed him out since most likely that guy was an elder/servant.

We cannot blame the researchers for these programmes as you really need to be inside the cult for a while to pick up on the real attitudes, teachings, beliefs and practices, you would need to be undercover as an new convert for probably two years, as was said above though, a short chat with an ex JW would save wasting two years.

I do think it is a pity that these shows get it wrong to any degree, because the average mind-controlled JW will then dismiss in his/her mind the message of the programme/film whatever, simply because small details are wrong.

I don't know if this exactly fits the theme, but my JW elder CO brother related this one to me (when he was alive).

Remember Rodney Dangerfield, the guy who "never got respect"? This was one of his examples:

    I never get any respect.
One time the door bell rang and I answered it. There stood two Jehovah's Witnesses. They looked at me and then looked at each other. They looked back at me and said: "We're not interested."

Another one that my brother told when the winter weather was being reported during a blizzard. Reportedly the weatherman in that area reported that "the storm is so bad, Jehovah's Witnesses are saying if you want your magazines you'll have to come and get them."

I still wat ch' Scrubs" reruns . Turk, the black surgeon, tells JD ( his friend and the narrator of the show) in an early episode that his mother is a Jws's.(note the wording) Then later in another episode Turk talks about the family celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas ( he mentions a family member who is bipolar, I think). So, unless Turk's father is an unbelieving mate, the storyline is wrong, Of course a lot of jws really do celebrate Thanksgiving, I know of several. Most don't tell anyone but their closest friends( the ones they invite to dinner).
