That statement has been made to me recently - I think it is a sound-bite from the new DVD about Jerusalem's fall.
Hmm.. I need to reflect on a reply . Several thoughts come to mind but it has to be constructive and form a reasoned argument rather than a smart answer.

Are we unreasonably obsessed with the past? I do not think so , but any comments are appreciated.
Why do you want to answer an unreasoning comment with a constructive statement? Isn't that the same as casting pearls before swine?
Well consider an amputee. They must always focus, to a degree, on the leg they lost. Would someone accuse them of focusing on the past and ignoring current 'blessings' (whatever that means?) when they are concerned about getting fitted for the proper prosthetic? No, because that would be cruel and unfeeling. Just like the comment made to you. Ignore that you have been scarred by the situation in the past, and look forward, you ungrateful slouch!
Who says things like that? If we are still focused, it means we are still hurting, and exuuuuuussssseeee us if we can't work it out on someone else's time table.

if the past dosent matter then why do they have a proclaimers book? two dvd's that recount history? a cd rom that is full of written history?

You asked the right question in your post: What blessings? Make them be specific. The WTBS has been wrong about everything they've ever said, what reason exists to suddenly believe they are right now?
Its amazing how mind control works. Here are these folks who give at least half of their spare time to the b0rg if they follow the full program laid out by the Watchtower. And what do they do with this time? The same thing over, and over, and over, and over.
Same routines, same "food" over and over. No birthdays, no holidays, no entertainment that crosses whatever invisible line that the WT sets, no worldly association, severe limits on education, limits on hobbies (lest they slack off in "spiritual activities") limits on family association (non believers or DFd) no kinky sex, no p0rn, it goes on and on and on...
Yet they completely and totally believe that they are "blessed" to some high degree, that they are "happier" than the world while they reach to pop their antidepressants.
You can't "reason" with people who think like this. What blessings is right, but don't bother telling them that.
Oh and on the question of the "past" here is one for them to consider. Ask them what common thing has affected every living creature in the "past"? Since the dawn of man and animal, every single thing has died. A harsh fact proven every single day. Yet they think they are going to be the one exception to this 100% never-wrong rule.
