Even better: The queen comes out after the guy rings the bell.

"Opening ceremonies are getting bigger and bigger and are expected to be wonderful, but we cancelled our vision of an extremely expensive 'WOW' show and have donated the money we would have spent to wiping out student loans and feeding the poor. LET THE GAMES BEGIN."

    I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My favourite bit was the music medley starting from the 60s to now. And the Mr Bean part

It was very "British" and you probably had to already know many facets of British culture to understand it all. I was brought up on all things British as a child so I loved it.

I unfortunately missed the first hour or so, but everything else I saw was incredible! I can't think of what my favorite was. I loved the bicycle doves with lit wings, the fireworks were awesome, the Queen being dropped by parachute was a riot, the cauldron lighting ceremony made my eyes water, I was in awe at the whole thing. I have been watching youtubes of the first hour that I missed, and the Mary Poppins drop in, the Industrial age scene, as well as the English countryside scene was great! The Olympic rings coming together and showering sparklers was also magnifiscent!

The parade of nations was good, and I especially enjoyed seeing the clothing that is popular in different countries. I must add that the Ralph Lauren Polo outfits for the USA were HOT! The crisp lines, the simplicity, the colors, the berets, all perfect.

I really needed to see something spectacular as I have been depressed lately, and this really fit the bill for not only myself, but my Partner Dave who couldn't leave his seat, even though he usually is not into such things!

It once again showed that if we use our minds, and come together for a cause without all of the fighting, we as Humans can accomplish so much. I am not really into sports, but the Olympics signify to me a putting aside of one's differences, and coming together for fun, unity, comradery, and love.

If only all Humans could act that way every day..........

    Hi BP!

The sound quality of what they showed us made it unbearable to watch...and listen to. Turned if off after 10 minutes.

As a fan of Mike Oldfield, of course it were his 11 minutes that I liked the most. But Chariots of Fire was great, too.

Yeah I was surprised we didn't see a nod to Roald Dahl, Tolkien, or Doctor Who. At one point I coulda swore I heard the TARDIS materializing and got excited, but apparently it was a false alarm.

I did think of LOTR tho when I watched the bucolic pretty pre-industrial community (Hobbiton!) get turned into industrialized industry (Isengard!).

I loved the bit about the Queen skydiving. Made me think of the movie The Queen and how Elizabeth was so reluctant to "modernize". Now she's acting in a scene that posits her skydiving with James Bond. lol And the scenes at Buckingham Palace were cool because there were lots of "I was there!" "I remember that!" moments for me.

The rings uniting in the sky with streams of sparks pouring down from all sides was such a sight to behold.
