I too came to the same conclusion fairly soon after leaving, better to let sleeping dogs and all that. Many of my family that are still in are well along in years, they would literally have nothing in their lives if they left the Borg, I am sure that one or two of them would go utterly mad, they simply could not handle reality.

It is my hope that the younger ones wake up, those in their twenties and younger, but I don't hold my breath, for them it is a terrific social club, and eventually they marry a JDub and gain JDub in laws, and the cycle goes on, they in the end have too much to lose too if they leave.

It all depends on the situation and the person. For someone that has spent decades in the organization and eats, sleeps and breathes Watchtower .......then yes....i think they are better off staying in la la land.

I know a Sister close to 80 y.o. and she has devoted her life to being a JW. She even DA from one of her children when they left in 1980.

When I was coming out of my WTS induced coma, I spoke to her and asked her a question regarding blood fractions to start her to think.

It completely frazzled her to even consider thinking beyond what she has been indoctrinated with for almost 50 years.

I am not going to tell her anything unless she asks. I don't want to hurt her.

Would you prefer not to know it if you were them?

I have loved ones in their 80's and 90's who have been in since they were in their twenties. One went to prison for 2 yrs during wwII. Not to mention they have large families who are 'in'.

I would not want the responsibilty to open their eyes even if I could. Besides, I suspect they already know as much as we do but have decided to go ahead and see it through.

    I don't judge them.

A common defensive reaction to having one's faith questioned is to willfully close one's mind. It is not unique to JWs - but they certainly have perfected the art of blocking their ears. As Paul Simon said, "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest" (The Boxer, 1969).

From a compassion perspective, I see absolutely no value in telling an elderly JW that their religion is a snare and a racket. Mind you, I wouldn't be so bold to tell anyone that. I'd need to see evidence that they were interested in checking out their religion.

Yes, in particular very old people. Possibly also addictive personalities too.

"As Paul Simon said, "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest" (The Boxer, 1969)."

And it goes on to say, "lie lie lie, lie lie lie lie lie lie lie, lie lie lie, lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie".

Think of the 80 y.o. Sister, still pioneering, participating in KH buids, going where the need is great, sacrificing her relationship with her DF'd daughter for 30 years (because she wants to be obedient to God). Her entire adult life wasted to her devotion to false religion. How would she survive that at 80?

If I were her, no. Not at the end of my life. No friends. No social life. Then , what?

That's the only life she has known. Imagine the shame and burden of all those "What if" questions. And how distraught they would be to know they disowned their own flesh and and gave their blood, sweat and tears for just mere men of the GB. Devastating.

If they want to know TTATT all they need to do is open their eyes and unplug their ears. Some people don't want to know the truth and are content.

I mean the truth about the organization they are serving and financing. That does not negate their faith in God and the Bible, for which there are many interpretations.
