    Hi guys,

If you've been following my posts on here, you'll know that I've recently been fascinated by the April 15th 2008 study edition of the Watchtower magazine - namely the 'Repudiate Valueless Things' article.

Here are my previous posts on this masterpiece of Watchtower propaganda:

If there were awards for the most in-your-face brainwashing, this article must surely be up there.

Anyway, in the 'Repudiate Valueless Things' article, the Watchtower Society decided to add their bit on higher education. I've given a full and frank breakdown in my latest article.

    http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/jehovahs-witness-beliefs/the-watchtower-says-higher-education-wastes-valuable-youth-years/

Please read it and share your thoughts here with the rest of us.

To be honest, I am still having trouble believing what I read in that article.

    Love,
    Jaymes

What, though, of higher education, received in a college or a university? This is widely viewed as vital to success. Yet, many who pursue such education end up with their minds filled with harmful propaganda.

    Translation:

We don't want anything interfering with our filling your minds with our own harmful propaganda.

Nice article. I honestly think their anti-education stance is a form of mental abuse just as damaging to some as physical abuse. Yeah, harmful propaganda- who would know better than them?

Time spent at college is time not spent taking GB brochures door to door and
    collecting money for the GB.

Colleges have libraries where you can research special claims you've heard or
    read.

Colleges have career guidance counselors who neglect to tell you the end is
nigh and instead give you an informed and realistic idea of how much schooling
you need for what jobs and what salaries to expect from them, etc.

College history courses don't warn that events since 1914 indicate the devil
has been turned loose since then. They don't note the achievements, special
prediction abilities, or support for distinctive teachings that prove the JWs
    presidents/GB are God's special spokespeople of a literal 144,000.

Even comparative religion courses may make little or nothing of them, even in
the section about Abrahamic religion. The teacher may not have researched it
enough to field questions about it more than offhandedly. In contradiction to
various GB teachings, they teach the actual history of Abrahamic religions.

College movie classes focus on various notable film makers and ignore
    Russell's slide show/phonograph presentation.

Colleges have literature classes that don't include Watchtower books in the
    curriculum.

Colleges have sociology classes that don't teach the evils of the worldliness
of birthday parties and everybody who isn't one of the JWs. They teach that
there's a long history of harm due to bigotry about women and LGBT people.

Colleges have science classes that teach evolution, not intelligent design.

Colleges have medical courses that fail to teach that the best evidence shows
you should always refuse the medical use of blood/major blood products.

Colleges are mostly comprised of non-JWs. JWs there may form relationships
with people who draw them from the JWs.

I only recognize one problem with college. The debt. There is the real risk of ending up owing the equivalent of 10 monster boxes of silver and not having the means to pay it back. At which point, your wages get garnished and you end up a slave.

But, that is the only reason I recognize to give college a second thought. Can you do it without running up crippling debt? Are you qualified to get in? If so, by all means do it. The time spent does give valuable experience, even if you don't use it for your employment. The only exceptions are those who are in businesses where a college education would take away from it--those in entertainment, or who already own a business that is doing extremely well by the time they are ready. In those situations, college is optional. But, for most of us, staying out of crippling debt should be the only worry about college.

WT wizard, after high school I did not have any motivation for higher education from parents or KH.

On my own, I decided to go to 1 year tech school.

problem 1 was: I found some good jobs, but during the interview/resume. many rejections came about.

problem 2 was: I found that co-workers doing my same job with college education was making about $25k a year more.

The WT anti-university/education is another extremely harmful doctrine. It has damaged the lives of many young people over the years, mine included. I have struggled financially all my life, and now I'm trying to save my home of 30 years from foreclosure, all because I "chose" to pioneer instead of going to university. In the years I was in high school, the Society was actually pushing young people to drop out of high school because the end was near. They deny it now, of course. It sickens me to see articles like this that continue to tell young people they are wasting their time by pursuing education.

Like many ex-JWs, I finally went to university as an adult, but it's ridiculously difficult to find success when you are competing with university graduates half your age (not to mention the debt). Of course, my university experience did alow me to discover the truth about why the WT is against it. As Glenster points out - what an eye-opener!

YHWH said he is a jealous God, and he wants you to keep your mind nice and tight, so you can be His main squeeze....

Wait: we are talking about religion here, right?
