Oh...how could I forget the Larry Shaders Show finale. I mean, what show could have a finale that itself remarked about other shows' finales, and have Jim Carrey in the episode begging for the series (or rather the series within the series) to stay on the air (scroll to 1:08):
Favorite LAST episode to the ending of series drama or sitcom?

Interesting so many liked and remember the Newhart finale. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread. I liked the Seinfeld ending, but that's because I hated the show.
so CSI Miami has been cancelled? That has been a bizarre show in many ways. Johnny Carson's last night on his show was good.

oh what about Happy Days? I can remember "faking" I was sick on meeting nights, just so I could stay home and watch it on when they all went.
I was a brazen Teenager then!

I have to say the Monk series finale was the best. I sobbed happy tears and have watched it over and over. The recent "the Closer" series finale was pretty awesome too :)

Blackadder, over the top.
Is the Sopranos really worth watching a million episodes to get to the ending?

Yea, St. Elsewhere stands out among the others already mentioned. Quite the left field twist there.

I had a friend who resisted. He isn't really a fan of TV shows. And he didn't want to get hooked up in something still on the air because who knows how long he'd have to keep watching? But once the series was over, I recommended it to him. Watch the first episode or two and see what you think. He loved it and borrowed the whole series and watched them over about 2 months. Except for the controversial ending, he loved it. There are 86 episodes, and I think all of them are a little short of an hour.
If you liked movies like the Godfather, Good Fellas, Casino, etc., it'll be worth it. But it is different. It's not just the criminal side of it. Tony Soprano also has to deal with family issues like everybody else. An aging parent and uncle, kids, etc. He sees a shrink. In addition to power struggles, turf wars, evading the feds and enemies, worrying about rats, and all those other things a ganster would do.
