    Hi All,

This is a picture of the last Kindom Hall that I was the PO.

I went by to take a picture yesterday and a couple of JWs drove up. I talked a few minutes and gave him the history of the Hall, along with a few comments about my family and some of the questions I have about the new light. I didn't get nasty, just mentioned a few things I didn't think he had thought about. No reaction that I could see.

I designed and help build the old part of the Hall, the new addition was built from money that and old man donated by me. He had been associated years ago, but never came to the hall anymore and asked that I come by to see him when I was the PO. He just put my name on his account so that when he died I could just draw the money out. I must say that JWs do trust each other. Several years later he died, this was after I left. I went to the bank and drew the money out and gave it to the Kingdom Hall. I wonder what they would have done if I had kept the money? They are in the process of building a new hall on the old road where I lived as a child. The JW told me they had only 80 active publishers. About 30 years ago I think we had about 45 Pubs.
He had moved down south from NY. I might go attend a meeting to see if I know many of the ones there. Maybe not.

I'm sure those are TRICK windows! They only let in new light.

I noticed that the windows have been changed since I was there, they were clear and you could look out, now they are some kind if thick glass that you can't see through. I guess if you could see out anything would catch your interest, compared to the meeting.

So, does anyone know when/why the society started moving to window-less halls?

Is this a worldwide phenomena, or just US? I seem to recall most KHs I went to as a kid had windows, but none seem to now.

    That is strange isnt it?
The people in town said that J.W.s do crazy stuff in the halls and thats why they dont have windows. I imagine they pictured witnesses rolling around on the floors screaming holy messeges etc.
Im sure it was designed so the speaker would have complete attention of the congregation with no distractons. This way members wouldnt have a moment to gaze out of a window and wish they were somewhere else. When I was young I used to believe it was because that the witnesses would be safe in the kingdom halls during Armageddon and wouldnt have to look out any windows and see all the worldly people
being tortured and killed. Pretty sick huh?

    Hi all,

The phaseout of windows on Kingdom Halls -- most of the newer ones are ugly, resembling warehouses, coincides with the steady increase in paranoia among the members.

I can't recall which town this one kingdom hall was in. But it was in Kansas- I think Levensworth. The congeration had sold their old kingdom hall to the Mormans. The Mormans did not change it to much. This JW sister had been out of town for a while. She did not know about the sell of the old KH. She promptly got dressed and went to the Sunday morning meeting. When she got there at first she did not notice anything out of the ordinary. She had noticed it was now the Morman church when they started their singing. When she had finally noticed it not being the kingdom hall, she could not get out of there fast enough. I would have loved to be there just to see the expression on her face.

It's an interesting pic. Thanks for posting Undecided.

I hadn't realised that KH in the USA were window-less. How long has that been?

I wonder if it's true of other lands?

Here in Oz the KH all have large windows. Plenty of 'new light' in Oz you see!

Actually it'd be better if they didn't have windows I s'pose 'cos the summer sun can make for a great deal of heat thru' the windows. But then again, I guess windowless halls also need aircon don't they?

Seems a strange looker of a building to me, but then I'm looking at it upside down!

    Cheers,
    Ozzie
