But I thought a well-armed society is a polite society....

Do they have an "anti-politeness" plank?

This makes no sense. If they ban guns within 7 miles of the convention, then only criminals will have guns.

Wouldn't it make more sense to require everyone to have a gun so everyone is protected ?

I'm surprised they don't put a Glock and a couple hundred rounds of ammo in their Convention Welcome Bags to keep everyone safe.

St. Petersburg's ordinance establishes a 7.4-square-mile Event Zone that encompasses a large area around Tropicana Field, where the RNC welcome party will take place, and reaches to Tampa Bay. On Aug. 26, the day of the big party, the ordinance bars the possession of a range of items in the Event Zone that can be used as weapons or as defensive shields against police (except, absurdly due to state law, loaded guns when the owner has a concealed weapons permit). Among other items, the ordinance prohibits fragile containers, umbrellas with metal tips, light bulbs and any container with liquid except for small bottles of prepackaged soft drinks or water. These items sound pretty innocuous, but past protesters have used them to cause trouble.

Balance rights, safety during RNC party

Ironically, city ordinances cannot trump Florida state handgun laws, so those with the proper permits will be allowed to carry concealed handguns into the event zone.

At Tampa convention, protesters can carry guns, but not puppets

I think it's a good idea. Who brings a puppett to a gun fight?

This a temporary measure regarding weapons or items that can be used as weapons in public around the convention due to the anticipated protests. It just means the cops can detain you for walking around with a lead pipe or a jar for of gasoline.

It has no effect on weapons on private property or in someone's home.

    Nice try!

One out of 4 people in Florida legally carry guns in their vehicles, many people in Florida have legal concealed

weapons permits. I live in St. Pete I am not aware of any roadblocks into Tampa.

I guess you just told me, I cant get into Tampa without beging searched.

I did see the St. Pete Police station barracaded Saturday night and the road was blocked behind it.

You dont even need to have a permit to carry a handgun in your vehicle, it just has to be 3 moves away you can

put it in a box or a holster in your glove box and its legal.

If the politicians were not so corrupt we would not have to live in a police state.

Its terrible what the corrupt politicians have done to America.

I would think there are private homes within 7 miles of the convention that are full of all kinds of weapons.

I don't mind admitting when I get things wrong and it seems I did indeed get this wrong. It looks like a mayoral request for a concealed gun ban was rejected. My bad for not checking properly what I read on Twitter . .

Seven mile ban? Not a problem.
