    Kaethra,

I hadn't realised. But, so what? does that mean "Here Comes the Bride" is out too? Wagner, I believe, Lohengrin.

Also many witness songs are obvious plagiarisms on other stuff.

Personally, that album of JW tunes sounds like a bad mixture of elevator music and high school band.

Gawd! And don't you dare play Handel's Messiah in earshot of an elder!

I know the reason why it is not played at Jewish weddings. Mendelson was a notorious anti-semite. Maybe that has something to do with it not being played at JW weddings either.

Of course, it may very well be that the WTS has its own spiritually upbuilding and fitting melodies for suchlike occasions.

When Mrs Thirdson and I got married we noted that the "wedding march" was specifically ruled out too. At the Cathedral where we were married there is a strict code on what is considered to be appropriate music. At least there is a huge choice of music and we were aided by a friend who is the music director at a local Roman Catholic church. He arranged the music, improvised a piece based on our favorite hymns and played the piano and the cathedral organ at our wedding as a wedding gift.

Despite our small wedding (about 70 people) I wanted to have two hymns sung as well. We had nice, appropriate hymns and left out words like "Marriage is God's arrangement; by him it was designed: it forms a bond of union; brings blessings to mankind."

PS. Kismet told us this before but song 117 *Marriage--God's Arrangement" can be sung to the tune of the Muppet show.

In truth there's very little music at a Witness wedding and what little there is must be from the Kingdom Songbook.

It just filled you with such romant--- sorry, I mean SPIRITUAL feelings.

In other words, it filled you with a desire to partake of spirits?? It drove you to drink???

Spot on, Brother Xander, spot on!

Don't know about you, but 100% of the weddings in our congregation (well, except me and my wife's) were in the hall. The elders REALLY frowned on weddings outside the hall - in fact, one wouldn't give the wedding talk if it wasn't in the hall.

I am reminded of the wise words of Reverend Lovejoy: This never would have happened if the wedding had been in the Church with GODDD instead of in the showy display of nature!

    cracks me up every time

The JW music is really atrocious. I am so glad I left them before I would ever get married to anyone. Their music sounds more like dirges than anything cheerful!!!
