    Hi Gang-

Many of you may know that I teach at a small Christian liberal arts college in Nebraska now. My pre-med students sponsored a blood drive yesterday and asked me to donate. So, I donated blood for the first time. It really was pretty easy. I felt a little light headed afterwards but it was not bad. In any case, I hope the blood helps someone out who needs it including those JWs who decide to take blood or the allowable blood components.

I feel awful about it now, but I didn't give blood back during Sept 11.

We had stopped going to meetings for about 6 months or so, and were starting to drift away. I really, REALLY wanted to, but still believed what the WTBTS told me regarding blood, so I didn't.

I only just tore up my blood card last month, even though I've disagreed with significant points in their doctrine for some time. Just couldn't get past their brainwashing about how important that piece of paper was. Which is funny. I didn't believe their teachings, would want a blood tranfusion ('forced' on me to save my life I reasoned), but could not tear up this stupid card for so long.

    Interesting question:

Anyone who was a 'good' JW kept their blood card with them at all times, signed and dated properly. How long after you 'left' did you destroy the card, or, at least, stop carrying it anymore?

    Hi Jeff,

    I'm proud of you!

Xander: I carried my card for several years after I opposed the
policy. Definitely under the influence of mind control.

    Hey Jeff,
Way to go buddy.... congratulations... I remember the feeling of my first donation... I felt great, and that I had done something really good... and you have... thank you.

Xander... I removed my blood card from my wallet about three weeks after coming across the Bulgarian thing....and Lee Elders website... but I kept it in a box... strange souvinier don't you think..... for about a year.... then I threw it out... ripped it up in shreds first though... that felt good...
Good on ya for getting rid of it...

hi xander, well, i don't think i would ever have qualified as a good jw but while i was one, i did keep my blood card with me. a few months after i left, a friend of mine saw my card and said she was doing me a favor and burned it for me :)

it's good you didnt donate on 9-11, they got so much blood most of it had to be thrown out, they didnt have the storage capacicty to handle that much organic material.

I never signed mine ever. My mother filled it out but I always destroyed it right away.
