No, this is not a valid comparison. Go to the faithful and discreet slave thread and you will see what I mean. I didn't get hardly any scriptural arguments. All I got was "this isn't a true doctrine...because *(insert better private interpretation of what it means)*. That's fine and dandy, but I just cannot accept an interpretation of scripture without some kind of scriptural harmonization.
Recovery: with all due respect, any discussion on Matt. 24:45 and the F&DS should fall upon the individual who is suggesting that this applies to JWGB.
JWs/GB make the claim that the GB is this Spirit Appointed F&DS who is supposedly given all control over providing spiritual direction to God's People, yet evidence continues to mount that they clearly have NO direction of God's Holy Spirit. Their "divinely" given doctrinal explanations must be constantly changed, as they become outdated (note the generation doctrine); or in some instances don't actually change, but teeter back and forth, back and forth (note the question of whether those in Sodom & Gomorrah will be resurrected; or the identity of the Superior Authorities).
To any reasonable person, who is a believer in Almighty God and His Holy Spirit and the Bible as His Word, it is inconceivable that He would provide such misguided direction to those desiring to worship him in Spirit & Truth. (misguided=understatement)
It is you (or JWs) who are making this sensational claim to be the one sole communication for Almighty God. Prove it.

As Recovery well knows, the GB uses the "new light" excuse for back-flipping, flip-flopping, etc.
Here's where a knowledge of the physical world is helpful, as the reference to 'new light' is referring to the Sun rising at dawn, with the path becoming clearer with time.
Here's where a little science experiment that ANYONE equipped with a photometer (a light meter, as used by professional photographers) can conduct to prove the concept:
Go outside before the Sun rises, and mount a photometer on a tripod in an open area (i.e. no trees) with a clear, cloudless view of the horizon where the Sun will appear. Making sure not to block the sensor with your body, record the values obtained every minute, over the course of a few hours; you'll note that the light intensity ONLY increases as the Sun approaches from below, and then rises above, the horizon. Note that it doesn't get brighter, then get dimmer, then reverse intensity and get brighter. Nope, it ONLY gradually INCREASES in intensity. Try it for yourself, even plotting out the obtained raw data on graph paper.... Only brighter.
It is you (or JWs) who are making this sensational claim to be the one sole communication for Almighty God. Prove it.
For all others, the only rational thing to do until ANY outrageous claim is proven by evidence is to not blindly accept it, but demand proof: the burden of proof is on those who make the claim.
That's the Scientific Method, and hence why Recovery is so relucant to accept that BASIC PRINCIPLE of rational thought. He no doubt sees rationalism as a synonym for evil, being a tool of Satan?
It makes sense: if Recovery IS a JW, he never demanded seeing that kind of proof before accepting JW premises, so why should he start being rational now?
these articles were nothing more than clever lies and half truths designed to deceive the minds of unwary JW's
I'd really like to know which articles these are and what the half-truths are. If you haven't checked it out already, jwfacts.com offers some pretty comprehensive articles with plenty of references.
My search began with the whole 607 thing. I purposefully didn't read the apostate sites (although it would have saved a lot of time and effort) I went to the library, MULTIPLE libraries, and found everything I really needed to know. There really is no need for apostate literature at all. Just be honest with yourself and read.
Listen, finding out everything you ever believed or will believe in is just made up stuff is a tough pill to swallow. It wasn't easy for me or most of the people here.
By the way, really ALL Jehovah's Witnesses are UNWARY - the religion would have never otherwise survived!
Recovery, just as my JW grandfather felt perfectly fine asking repeated questioners to "please read our publications to find out for yourself" I feel perfectly fine encouraging you to at least take the time to read such publications as Mr Franz "Crisis of Conscience".
You may not mean to, but your constant "complaint mode" comes across like troublesome sniping, designed to show you are right and all others are wrong. Ultimately, you have to act in accord with your beliefs. If you believe the Watchtower Society is publishing the truth, you owe it to yourself to act in accord with those beliefs (which generally dissuade against keeping company with those who question the Society).
So, whilst I acknolwedge you have a perfect right to post on this forum (in accord with the posting rules as we all are), I do not feel inclined to ant to engage in debate with you. You are in fact getting a more engaged deal from this forum than you ever would were you to turn some of your sniping back on the Watchtower Society.
I wish you well.
I have a 20 year old daughter who is making decisions that are appropriate for her age. Book smart... but... the wisdom of her own rationale scares the crap out of me.
What's the guess at Recovery's age? I'm giving them early 20's. S/he seems JW booksmart. But as for wisdom... eh... a little young. I REALLY hope that this person isn't in their 30's or 40's.
I've read about the general malaise felt among some adherents, but what's the profile (age range) of the most "gung ho/out to save em'" witnesses?
Someone asked why my name is Recovery. Well, it is because I am sort of a recovering apostate. When I read the essays refuting 607, 1914, God having an organization, etc. I was ready to leave and quit the organization. I was ready to stop pioneering. I was depressed for many weeks since I thought I had found out 'the truth about the truth'. My life long goal of Bethel, I almost threw out the window. I recently did a lot of my own research and found that these articles were nothing more than clever lies and half truths designed to deceive the minds of unwary JW's.
Holy crap! ANDRÉ? IS THAT YOU?
w11 2/15 p. 19 Do You Really Appreciate Your Blessings?
André, who had served Jehovah for years, had the bitter experience of being led astray by apostate thinking. He felt that having a quick look at an apostate Web site would not be dangerous. He recalls: "Initially, I was attracted to the so-called truths that the apostates spoke of. The more I examined what they said, the more I came to think that I was justified in leaving Jehovah's organization. But later, as I did some research on the apostates' arguments against Jehovah's Witnesses, I became aware of how crafty the false teachers were. Information taken out of context was their 'strong evidence' against us. Thus, I decided to start reading our publications again and to attend the meetings. Soon I realized how much I had missed." Happily, André returned to the congregation.
"It is entirely unfair for people to expect me to answer such an overwhelming amount of questions unrelated to what I'm trying to discuss. If you had a scriptural argument against the FDS, repost it or point it out to me in that thread. ..." Recovery, post #30
I figured out that the bible wasn't the word of ANY 'god' - at least, not one that supposedly built the earth - when I was 7 - 8 years old.
I became interested in rocks when I was 5 years old.
Became fascinated by volcanoes at the age of 7...
So, when an elder read Exodus 19:16-19 from the podium, I immediately recognized it as a pretty good description of an erupting volcano. Problem was, neither the Israelites NOR THEIR 'GOD' knew what it was....
That clearly exposed the very human origins of that collection of Middle-Eastern mythologies, to my eyes.
BUUUT - since you're determined to measure our words strictly by the tales of late-Bronze-Age Middle-Eastern nomadic males...
Who didn't even know what a VOLCANO was....
More power to you.
I hate the fact that recovery has used a name that is so similar to mine. He is not really in recovery he is as a dog returning to his own vomit.
2 peter 2:22
Information taken out of context was their 'strong evidence' against us.
They're the ones that misquote. I hardly think the Andre experience is real.
