I just saw this news story.
I never was a JW (or a catholic) but I liked this story:

Can you imagine a GB member ever saying in effect - 'we were wrong'?
(Sorry, don't know how to make it clickable).

I think a lot of us would welcome that. But I don't see it coming. It never has and the current crop of GB guys don't seem like they're even half as enlightened as their predecessors. For one thing, they'd have to apologize to an awful lot of disfellowshipped people. Ain't gonna' happen!
Nope. That would give apostates and opposers too much firepower.
IMO though, I think MANY would respect the honesty and candidness. I mean, that's one of the cardinal reasons they use to explain the Bible is inspired by God, the fact real servants of God admitted their faults... But I remember hypocrisy doesn't apply to them.
Sorry, I didn't make this clear. This news story is about a senior RC cardinal (considered maybe a candidate for pope) who seems to have made various statements admitting that the RC church was wrong about various issues.
(I can't make it 'clickable' - can anyone help?)
Hell no.

The GB are trying to impose a continuing identity of divinely channeled power from god, ALL the leaders have been
very restraint to admitting their particular faults, obviously because that would weaken the very identity they are trying to create.
What are the GB members if they don't continue with this agenda, they are just a bunch of tritely writers of a religious publishing house.
One must remember that the GB are trying to do two prominent things, one being to create a power base for themselves and secondly
to attract attention toward the organizations published works. The later agenda feeds the first .
Examining the WTS/JWS you can see a marketing strategy in the works, which cultivates both power and money.
The GB are all locked into their position and loyalties,,they will turn on one another just like they did on Ray Franz if deflection from the party line is sensed,, they have very little wiggle room or tollerance for mistake admittance.
This cardinal was 85 and died Friday. I assume his comments were those of a dying man or the words were guarded until his death.
I can imagine a dying GB member saying similar things. But the difference would be that the other GB would guard who has access to the dying one. Any clear statements of doubt or disagreement would be squashed for the benefit of the organization.
Earnest: Thanks for that. I think that maybe posters here who read that story may ask the same question as I did in the title of this thread.
