king, that 1/2 black face was definetely intriguing!
Also, on New Generation where Riker got it on with a person from a planet where sex distinction was forbidden? I think everyone was supposed to show a certain sexual trait, and a few were coming out of the closet?

Anyone remember an episode called High Ground from 1990 (?) which was banned due to the Irish Terroism references?
Met some of the TNG actors, Michael Dorn (Worf) is a big chap and Marina Sirtis tiny!

I never got into any STar Trek except the original and the movies (the newest is excellent in its portrayal of the young crew). But I think the show presented some very profound and thought-provoking moral issues - things that were pretty advanced for the time. I always like Miri for that reason, how it portrayed what might happen if a group of kids were abandoned and had to survive. A theme that was woven through so many episodes was the idea of good and evil existing within each of us. Plus so much of the technology was really predictive of things we now have.
Some other fave episodes: Tomorrow is Yesterday - where they travel back in time and are mistaken for a UFO, then accidentally pick up a fighter jet pilot. And who could forget Sulu's swordplay in The Naked Time. All Our Yesterdays - where they enter this time travel library and find Mariette Hartley exiled in an ice age cave.
Also love The Firm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhPiAFmYBDs "We come in peace, shoot to kill" "It's life, Jim, but not as we know it" "It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim"

I think the Original Series also has a certain cinematic value to it. Even though the sets were third-rate with polystyrene planets, and the acting quite hammy - it just has a certain "feel" to it. I can't quite put my finger on it, so I'll go with "cinematic" like I said. By comparison, the Next Generation, DS9 etc seemed to feel a bit over-produced and sterile at times. Maybe it was the Western-style music that made the difference in the Original Series. It added that edge of suspense and intrigue. The music in more modern incarnations sounds like the music they play at the convention while they're waiting for people to find their seats. Perhaps I had a subliminal aversion to it for that reason!!

I was a Star Trek fan from the beginning. Of course, watching the original from this time stance is not the same as being a teenager living during the VietNam war, the sexual revolution, pot and other drugs, etc. One year the show was changed to a meeting night and I suddenly sick more often on that night or had an overrun of homework assigned that day and due the next.
When the first movie came out, it was blah, but better than no Star Trek, TNG was not good the first year but they ironed out the flaws the next I liked Voyager but not Enterprise so much (the opening song bothered me so much and fastforwarded through it, but I miss Deep Space Nine, even on Directv, no reruns.)
The latest Star Trek movie is adjusted for the younger generation but with revelations of their pasts and the addition of the older Spock to satisfy older fans.
The next one, Star Trek Into Darkness,

I had to sneak to watch the original series b/c my jw mother said it was demonistic. They had special powers and Spock had devil ears.
When TNG came out it I did watch it but oh boy it was controversial in the cong because of Deanna Troi's demonism. lol
