Why I love September

I was born, raised and grew old(er) in California -'45 to '94, and Oregon since. Lived many years in Santa Barbara, Ca. where the change in seasons is noted by how foggy and damp it gets in the summer. In Oregon we live at a latitude about 50 miles north of the 45th parallel, which is a little north of Montreal, Canada. We get the full effect of the change in seasons. Our deciduous trees put on a fall show just as spectacular as Vermonts.

We start the month with some of the warmest temps of the summer and by the end of the month we are turning up the thermostat at night. The birds we feed start to increase and by December we feel like we have adopted them and spend way too much on seed and suet, but worth every penny in the show we see everyday from the dining room window.

It also happens to be the month of my birthday, but it is still my favorite time of year.

My favorite time of year was always Autumn. The colors of the leaves and the crispness of the air. Have a Happy Birthday!!!

Oh Glander, 2 questions- do you have any pipsissewa growing in your neck of the woods? Are you on avocation from growing avocados?

    (BTW-I really enjoyed your words!!!LOL)

Happy Birthday Glander. I also love September and Fall is my favorite season. The days are just beautiful. I grew up in the Texas Panhandle where there is a distinct difference in the seasons. When I moved to the SE Georgia coast, I wondered if I there would be a difference in the seasons; there is. You can smell Fall in the air as well as see the changes in nature. I wonder if our own bodies experience some kind of difference when the seasons change? One of the things I have noticed is that the Spring/Summer daylight hours are not as long here as they are in TX. I see Fall as the beginning of the year. Most everyone has returned to the routine things in life; back to school and end of most vacations, kind of like, God's in his Heaven and all's right with the world. We have Thanksgiving before us and Christmas is "just around the corner." Lots of good things to look forward to. I even buy school supplies, even though I am not going to school. It just seems appropriate to do so. Don't you just love being alive! I wish you many more Septembers of life.

I love September too, even before two of my babies were born during this month. It was more glorious for me back in Indiana though. The full colors were amazing.

rip - They sell pipsissawa here but they call it "scotch" and it is good stuff. We get great avocados at Safeway. This is not avocado growing country, we had a tree by our front door in Santa Barbara. We do have lots of blackberries and I made Blackberry wine this year and wife made jelly.

Panhandle - This far north we have very long days in the summer, not really dark until 9:30 pm and the sun comes up at 4:30 am. Winter of course is just the opposite.

My only complaint is just my personal preference for non-snow climate. I deal with it but go through more pipsisswa than usual.
