I was born, raised and grew old(er) in California -'45 to '94, and Oregon since. Lived many years in Santa Barbara, Ca. where the change in seasons is noted by how foggy and damp it gets in the summer. In Oregon we live at a latitude about 50 miles north of the 45th parallel, which is a little north of Montreal, Canada. We get the full effect of the change in seasons. Our deciduous trees put on a fall show just as spectacular as Vermonts.
We start the month with some of the warmest temps of the summer and by the end of the month we are turning up the thermostat at night. The birds we feed start to increase and by December we feel like we have adopted them and spend way too much on seed and suet, but worth every penny in the show we see everyday from the dining room window.
It also happens to be the month of my birthday, but it is still my favorite time of year.
