Blood is the symbol of life in the scriptures, they tell us, and they sacrifice the actual life - allowing their followers to die - in veneration of this symbol.

That was from the movie Spinal Tap. In the movie, the band has amps made with volume that goes up to 11 instead of 10. Their rationale was that when they need a little extra, they crank it up to 11. When asked why they don't just make the 10 louder, they pause for a minute and simply says: "Ours goes to 11." I thought that resembled how witnesses responds to challenges at times.
