  Propaganda has power. Does it overpower you? Or do you have a mind of your own?

  EDUCATION teaches you how to think. Propagandists tell you what to think. True educators present all sides of an issue and encourage discussion. Propagandists hammer hard on their view and discourage discussion. Many times their true motives are hidden. They sift the facts, tell the favorable ones and conceal the others. They distort and twist facts, specialize in lies and half-truths. Your emotions, not your logical thinking abilities, are their target. Many fall easy prey because it takes no effort to feel, whereas thinking is hard labor. And the propagandist sees to it that his message is made to seem wise, the right and moral one, and gives you a sense of importance and belonging if you follow it. You are one of the smart ones, you are not alone, you are comfortable and secure—so they say.

  Propagandists have little respect for people’s thinking abilities.

  Whatever you read or watch or listen to, test whether it is propaganda or whether it is the truth...

  What about you? Will you let others think for you, or will you do your own thinking? Do your own, and “thinking ability itself will keep guard over you.”

  My thoughts about using this quotation to refer to JWs themselves can be found in the following thread (post 23): Quoting out of context - ever justified. Whether or not this would be quoting out of context, I do think it describes how many JWs react to attempts show them strong evidence that is contrary to some belief held.

  They always out themselves with their own words, and they never see the irony. You would think that someone MUST see it, and perhaps does it on purpose. But mostly, people rarely see in themselves what they accuse others of being/doing.

  The irony does want to reach out and slap a person in the face, though, doesn't it?

  JWs have an uncanny ability to spot false teaching and manipulative techiques in everyone except themselves.

  They all need to invest in a quality set of mirrors and then take a good hard look at themselves.
