One question. If the file was a pdf, how did you get the text out of it? Is there an OCR feature with Acrobat? I have some pdfs that I need to manipulate (highlight lines) and it won't work with a pdf that was scanned in.

In acrobat, go to file/batch processing/save all as rtf/ok/select files/ok
