I got a real chuckle out of a few lines from this video. This was my favorite. " Jehovah doesn't care about " hours ", he cares about you doing your best!". This from a film that does nothing but emphasize the need to dedicate around 657,000 hours ( all your life if you live to 75 ) to the WTBTS. Granted, most believe they are serving God the way HE requires. While I do believe that as a Christian your entire life should be used serving your Creator and others, the quote was disturbing. Especially given the fact that I had just spent many hours in " meetings " being told in no uncertain terms, that visible service and hours in field service are required to be considered for appointments. In fact, someone could do their absolute best and never be used in the congregation...., never qualify. Any thoughts? Have you ever experienced a situation that proved " hours " matter, even though you were told the opposite?

Hours is the number 1, bar none, primary qualification for being appointed as an MS or elder.
You could be Jesus H. Christ regarding how well you meet the requirements spelled out in the Bible, but if you don't get your 10 hours a months, fuhgedaboudit.

I was not appointed an elder for a long time because my wifes "hours" weren't high enough

Theocratic Sedition
The best is sitting in an elder's meeting discussing potential appointments. The COBOE reads a name, and then the body discusses his situation. Usually for about 20 seconds or so after the name is brought up, everybody looks down at the carpet. Then one of the bothers will go, "what's his time like?" That usually gets the ball rolling. The time in field service is usually the first thing questioned. I've seen COs shut down unanimous recomendations from the elder body because the CO felt that the recomended brother's time wasn't diversified enough. The CO would deduct hours similar to deducting points because at least some of the hours reported were from the family study.

I'm sure Just Ron was never appointed as an MS or given any "privileges" is because my field circus time was too low and irregular. I always thought that was pretty unfair, judging a man based on his wife's actions (or lack thereof). After all, the current COBOE's wife isn't baptized, doesn't go in service, and isn't on the ministry school.

I saw this video once when it first came out, before the meeting last night I looked at the km just to see what was on the agenda, the questions regarding the video tuned my stomach...to much anti higher Ed and the dedicating your life to "Jehovah". It was enough for me to boycott the meeting, instead I styed home drank wine and watched reality tv...

Lostinthought, I did the same as you...
I'm wondering what's going to happen to my hubby. My FS hours are very very low, I have come off the school and we have a new CO coming next month. I can't see them asking him to come off as an elder, he came off once before and they were desperate to have him back (he's the sort everyone wants to go to). The CO might ask him why I'm not doing so well with my hours. Think he might tell him it's my mental health. LOL
Yes.. I'm 'mentally diseased'....

Hi!!! I bet you will love some of the " reasoning point " the Elders made is some of my meetings! I recorded the whole thing...sneaky, sneaky!! They won't remove your husband because of your hours, that is part of the beauty of the system. Now if he was a non-appointed brother it would be a factor, but once YOU ARE APPOINTED, you are in for the most part. It is a double standard for sure! I know an Elder who threatened suicide, but is still appointed. He has special circumstances so it was kept secret and confidential. Threaten suicide as an Elder and your alright, exemplary even. Question " theocratic procedures " and your name is removed from the assignment board! Good, the fade begins! Love ya sis!
