Today I am celebrating my first birthday after dutifully refusing to observe birthdays, thanks to the Jehovah's Witnesses. Not for as many years compared with most of you, but enough, and worst of all was that I dutifully refused even to celebrate my grandchildren's birthdays. That hurt me far more than them. But now....
