This last "new light" about who the F&DS really is would suggest to me that far from being self delusional - they are cynically looking out for their own power, authority, and interests.

If they didn't understand the truth, right from their beginnings , and the truth of when that beginning was is somewhat difficult to establish of course, but if they didnt "then" and all the time up to now, why should we think their "understanding" is correct now ?
They change their "understanding" more often than a tart changes her knickers.

Uh, science uses the same idea of "new light" (except it's objective, and needs to be demonstrable), so don't decry them too loudly, eg:
While Newton's theory of gravity WAS and IS true, it needed further scientists to refine it to explain gravatational behavior around black holes, etc.
Hell, even evolution as pitched by Darwin contained some absolute falsities, but we don't throw out the baby with the bathwater; we refine the theory, as needed.
To claim that truth/falsehood exists in a binary ABSOLUTE manner is itself a sign of someone who insists on black-and-whites, no gray. Only in Bible World do you have such absolutes....

Basically the GB have no idea of truth. Truth can stand on it's own. It doesn't need 8 paedophile lovers on Brooklyn to tell the rest of the world what it is.
What they really meant was:
