In philosophy, a theory of everything or TOE is an ultimate, all-encompassing explanation of nature or reality. [1] [2] [3] Adopting the term from physics, where the search for a theory of everything is ongoing, philosophers have discussed the viability of the concept and analyzed its properties and implications. [1] [2] [3] Among the questions to be addressed by a philosophical theory of everything are: "Why is reality understandable?" "Why are the laws of nature as they are?" "Why is there anything at all?" Just as in Physics where a unifying theory is proving elusive, so a TOE may be impossible in Philosophy, as one Philosopher said, we are not only a long way from having all the answers, we are a long way from having all the questions.

Thomas campbell claims to have a toe. He wrote a book on it. Part of it is metaphysical, although he has a rocket scientist background.

So long as we are a part of the system, a piece of the whole, we humans cannot elucidate a TOE.

    What's a toe?

Depends on the context. In the I/T world it can mean:

    TOE

(TCP/IP Offload Engine) A network adapter that performs some or all of the TCP/IP processing on an Ethernet adapter. As Ethernet becomes common at 1 Gbps and beyond, offloading the processing from the CPU to the card allows the CPU to keep up with the high-speed data transmission. Processing for the entire TCP/IP protocol stack may be performed on the TOE or just the data transmission part, leaving the session establishment and error handling to the CPU.
