yes there is clear direction. There is a letter (im sure atlantis posted it) that says its fine to have in the audiance, not to use on the platform. May stumble some (matrielizi m and they may feel they have to buy one) also a fear the battery may die in the during a part. But from the seat is fine. At least 10 people in my hall use them every meeting, varying mkes and models... i use one too cause its easy to play games on during the metting
Do the elders have "clear direction" that it's ok to use an ipad at meetings?

I am just surprised the instruction isn't "call the legal department"

I use mine for every meeting and take virtually no other literature. There has been a letter to say they cannot be used on the platform although I noticed one on stage at the AGM in the pictures recently posted.

They are used in churches- digital Bibles are popular
Pastors use them from the podium- they can even buy digital sermons, just in case they run out of ideas.

I use my iPad at the meetings for the WT study. I go to a kh in a pretty poor area in the Midwest. No one has said anything, but that is likely because I'm df'd. I do try to be discreet when using my downloaded Kingdom Ministery I get from this site. lol

Arghhhh so annoying! I cant get over how backward and controlled they are..(i was). Ipads should have been prophesied about they are so freaking awesome...
My guess is that the watchtower corp are not comfortable with photo/video/camera devices running and available in meetings, could prove embarassing!
But seriously.... They need to get a life, ipad or no ipad, i dont miss such mundane issues in life! I remember taking an amstrad electronic notepad to meetings and ministry in 1996! .... It was liquid crystal dissapointment, but once a geek, forever a geek.

In my congregation a brother I'm close to was using a small portable device to take notes and to access preloaded WT material including the NWT. He was told not use it because it distracted others and that scriptures should be read from the bible directly.

Dec KM has an insert re. using the website, and that in part encourages the use of mobile devices in the ministry:
30 min:
How We Can Make Good Use of Our Official
Web Site.
Discussion of pages 3-6. When
considering page 4, have a three-minute demonstration
of a family concluding their Family Worship
evening. The family head asks for ideas about
what to cover the following week, and the children
point out items from the “Teenagers” section
of the Web site that they would like to discuss.
Invite audience to comment on how they
have used jw.org, or plan to use it, for personal
and family study. When considering page 5, have
a three-minute demonstration of a publisher with
a mobile device using the site to answer a householder’s
question about our beliefs.When considering
page 6, have a four-minute demonstration
of a publisher talking to an interested person who
prefers to read in a different language. The publisher
uses his mobile device or the householder’s
computer to display a page fromthe

Thank you everyone for the insight! I guess it's just a matter of time until some in our hall take the plunge and show up with one. I can't wait! Being a servant and having to be always ready for a fill in for a part, I imagine I'll always have to have a real bible and songbook at the ready in case I have to run up (and I might as well bring them all the time so I don't have to remember to do so when I have a part).
It will be interesting to see who will be first and what the brother's reactions will be. We're a very conservative congregation and half of our elders do not have a computer. The COBE has to print out letters and forms for them!
