Because as one person said, "this is about Whitney, not arguing about faith. Have some respect"
It's not out of line to debate it here, or on pro-JW boards...if they exist. But on news sites where people are coming to grips with the horror of the crime, it's better to not be an apostate dick, just trying to make a point about the cult of Jehovah's Witnesses. Let them grieve, let them bury her, let them have peace.
I like undercover's comments, and I'd like to point out something in addition...
As you said, tresdecu, the comments of the [apparently] active JW apologists on that site appear quite ridiculous.
So-called "apostate" comments would simply muddy the waters. Better to give the JW apologists the opportunity to make thorough fools of themselves, than join them in the muck.
I saw on this AM news that they are having a five hour open house at the KH. The non JW community has been very emotionaly touched by this tragedy and have shown tremendous outporing of donations. It will probably be well attended. But I am sure the JW's are going to turn it into a "you-know-what" opportunity event.
And this poster stated the big question:
"...

EMTs are suppose to save lives Not take them, so this guy really lost all sense of morals. But if he has no prior record, then what caused him to do this in the first place? Normally people have police records that do this kind of thing. So in this case I find it bewildering that a person would change so quickly.
So I still have to ask what would make a person change so fast?..."
The only explanation I can come up with is this: this man may have been a sexual predator BEFORE he targeted Whitney. IF this was brought to the attention of the elders, OF COURSE they would follow the advice in the new "elders" book, and would have contacted Brooklyn INSTEAD of contacting the police.
This was a tragedy, but there is apparently much beneath the surface that I hope WILL be revealed...
I agree with Zid. I think this kid was screwed up on his own. Being a JW didn't help but I don't think it is correct to blame it on the Org. entirely. Just shows that they are no different than any other cult.
We will never know, but I would be very interested to know if he has had elder counseling encounters over the past couple of years. I would bet he has.
good points undercover and zid.
I guess at first I thought it wouldn't be that bad because it was a follow-up article 'days-later', and talked about JW beliefs. Looks like it was messy anyway...and I wouldn't want to be a 'dick'
Jw comments still make me mad though...grrrrrr.
Yes tresdecu, I agree - Grrrrrrrr!
But let them hang themselves with their blind self-righteousness...
Just went outside and hit myself in the head with a brick several times....that helped.
Aaarrrgh!
Have a martini instead - the really GOOD kind. And think about the fact that the Gov.Bod probably doesn't get to imbibe enough to drown the knowledge of what they're doing to people, no matter HOW much they drink...
