All of these were taken just over a year ago on Orcas Island, my granddaughter's school does a weekend retreat every year. That's my son and his daughter in the last picture.

Not quite ready to leave the Berg, so here are some more pics. Here you can get a sense of the vast open spaces there.

There was a little community, not even large enough to call a town, called Geluksburg, in the Berg. There is a story about a man who lived there, who had the phone company renting space to put a box on his property to serve the phone exchange in the community. They paid him about $10 a year or so for this rental. One year they were late with the check, so he got angry and went out to the box and chopped the wires, cutting the community's phone service out. The phone company called the police, and the man told the police to [have intimate relations with] themselves. Eventually they got that sorted and got phone service restored.
