Tried it, didn't like it went back to Win.7
The implantation of a touch screen OS together with a desktop user interface, is somewhat redundant and adds confusion
and a bit of aggravation to the whole experience .
This has been the majority of evaluative comments coming from people who have went for it or who've tried it out.
What was MS thinking about in doing this is subjectively speculative.
My opinion is that they wanted consumers to get a taste of the Win RT a tablet OS which supports their new tablets
and Win.8 is being used on their new Tablet called Surface.
MS is trying hard to catch up in the Tablet market base as well smart phones, which has been mostly dominated by Apple.
But its turning out to be a bit of a disaster in a marketing perspective, users wont jump into another and different OS
unless it has real tangible benefits in doing so. This reminds me of the trouble the company had when they introduced Win. Vista
a few years back. If MS down the road revises it so that users can have a choice of using a typical Windows UI (Win.7)
or a Tablet IU such as Metro, then I might eventually move toward it but until then I'm quite happy with Win.7.

Well it follows the MS pattern of success and flop. 98 Good, ME bad, XP good, vista bad, 7 good and 8 seems bad....

I highly recommend Start8 to bring back the Start button, if you're already running Windows 8.

Windows 8 boots and shuts down faster than Windows 7.
Stay with Windows 7, if possible.
If you have a touchscreen the new UI *might* be tolerable.

Thats true Leavingwt but since I'm running a fast SSD on SATA 3 the improvement is marginal
and Windows Aero is gone making everything look like Win. XP.
They are supposedly putting out IE 10 for Win. 7 in a couple of weeks so I'll grab that.

It works well on a portable, touch-screen environment. Such as a full Windows 8 tablet (not Windows RT)

Finkelstein: You are right. It's not as if Windows 7 is slow or anything, especially with a high-quality SSD or 10K hard drive.
