I cooked for the CO a couple of times. It was a long time ago, but I think it turned out well.

I went out to dinner once at Lawry's Prime Rib in Los Angeles with a CO, a DO, their wives and the rich JW in show business who was buying. I was young and impressionable. It was a fabulous dinner, I have to say, and loads of interesting high-level chit-chat. Didn't mean a thing to me, I didn't know the folks they were talking about. The fellow who was buying dinner talked a lot about how homosexuals were taking over show business, blah blah blah. I don't think I was entirely sure at the time what a homosexual was!

How did I wind up having dinner with such elevated folks? I was the sacrificial congregation pioneer, too poor for words, and I rode to the assembly with the CO and his wife.

our last cong had a couple of flats close to the territory so the CO's used to like to head back to the flat generally after FS/Meetings etc which probably made sense, everything for all their needs was provided, when I was a kid we used to have the old school CO's over for lunch, and Danny Owens (stand in CO most of the time) who we probably saw more then any other CO would often come over, he was a lovely elderly Welshman always single IIRC, not threatening, humble quiet down to earth, recall Alan Stokes also.

We had the CO stay with us a couple of times. One of them actually came outside and tossed the Frisbee around with us.

Had them over for a meal many times - usually a very nice time.

One time my family was away for the DC (at a time when you could pick which one you wanted to attend, so half of the congregation went to one and the other half went to another) when it was time for the CO visit. They stayed at our house while we were gone and, looking over our phonograph records, found a "Bert and I" album (a duo who specialized in Maine humor) that had some naughty words on it (like "damn" and "hell"). When we returned the PO took my Dad aside and mentioned what they'd found. Needless to say, when we got home Dad smashed the record to pieces and threw it away. Mind you, we were still pretty new.

I cooked for the Plumhoffs a few times when we lived on Martha's Vineyard. They stayed with us as well. They were lovely, and very appreciative. This was back in the early 70s. I don't think they are still alive.

They were assigned as caretakers of the Natick Assembly Hall after they came off the road. I don't think they are still alive.

Had one CO over for lunch. Wasn't a long, drawn out affair. They came, they saw, they ate, they left.

One of the traditions in our hall was to take the CO to a local cafeteria style restaurant. Salty, fatty, old folk food... but ch-ee-ap. A true JW paradise.

I offered my bed but he refused. He used to be in Percy Faith's band before he was a JW!!
We all were so proud of him. Poor sod he was just as hoodwinked as I

Had lots of C.O.s for lunch. At home and out. About one hour. Not much time to talk because of afternoon service. If you like them or need something..buy dinner on a non meeting night at a fancy place and lots of good booze !! A trick of my father-in law. A lot of C.O.s can really put away the good Scotch and prime rib.

No two C.O.s alike. Some are great guys trying to do the best they can, and at least a third are proud, pompous windbags. the pompous windbags are the easiest to entertain...."Tell us Brother so and so how did you get into the "Work"....they will drone on for 30 minutes...no need for small talk.

For some reason some C.O.s will flat out request to be treated to Golf or Ski trips on Mondays..expensive...weird.

hosted many a CO and a few DO's. Most were pleasant visits, mostly because I try to make it clear that being a "stick-in-the-mud" is unnecessary, and they enjoy just being themselves and relaxing.

The only one my late wife and I had over for dinner was Harry Mitani and his wife.in the early 1980's. We also invited several other cong. members. The Mitani's were great and I remember a wonderful time with them. I think the difference between them and some of the other aholes was the fact that the Mitani's raised kids and had to have a regular job before getting involved with the circuit work. They knew what the average JW had to go through. God bless them.
