Fakesmile, I agree about "The Postman" I thought it was better than the book. It suffered from having been Costner's next movie following "Waterworld," which was awful. It got you to wondering how many movies he could make about loners.

Sir David Lean was my first favorite, too! (Dr. Zhivago, A Tale of Two Cities and Ryan's Daughter were my first three)
,,, also now, Norman Jewison, David Cronenberg, Paul Haggis, Ivan Reitman (Canadians first, of course ), and John Cassavetes, Michael Mann, Brian de Palma,,, many more ... can't go wrong choosing by director; and sometimes actors.

Me, too Watson! I've seen it so many times, I couldn't count .... the way he transitions in that film ... it's always through a window .. remember when they were in Faraneeki (sp), and Lara looks through the window and the frost melts and we see the fields of sunflowers? ... or when the pervy (what the bugger is his name?) is abusing the young Lara and she looks at the window ... we see the candles glow, and it transforms into the cavalry marching on the poor? Stunning film, just amazing.
Oh, and Spielberg, can't forget him.

Yes, Steiger was great in Dr.Z and also as - the Pawnbroker.
That is a great way to put it ... cinematic experience .. that it is. It has it all re story, characters, historical fiction, and the beauty and harmony of the scenery/characters/story is a masterpiece.
