In the "what does the bible really teach" book, an attempt is made to illustrate the nature of satans challenge, as it explains suffering allowed to prove Jehoahs' souvereignty. On page 110 is given the illustration of a bright kid stepping up to the blackboard to show the elderly teacher (probably head of the teacher union chapter) * a more elegant way to solve those equations. Wt equates that situation to satans challenge. wow!! any clear thinker would graciously stop the "study" right there. Would not any school from your local highschool to Cambridge /Harvard/ MIT be proud to have a novel method, equation, a nobel-price candidate - even- rising through the ranks? Is not the story of human progress the saga of pupils always, sooner or later surpassing their teacher,? standing on their shoulders, even when they were giants? does not Ps 199:99 allow that this would be true of bible and science students?

So does this skewd illustration not make the succes of satans challenge apparent? is is is here not disdain or lack of understanding of the acadenic process and its goals? do you have examples?

glad not to have to recommend or offer that for reading! *no offense to the capable and struggling teachers doing their best.

I can't think of any examples right now but the WBT$ has been very scewed in some of it's illustrations. They make no sense at times.

Is this deliberate? Quite possibly!

I always wonder whether they are professional propagandists, without belief themselves, or whether they are merely inept. It would be nice if someone with the writing department would reveal the process.

Certainly, they intentionally misconstrue secular texts. When I was younger, I thought they had poor reading comprehension skills. Interestingly, my brother was underground as a Maoist for about twenty years. I would read the Maoist newspapers from a Communist Chinese book store in NY. HIs group was an Albanaian front. The English language was too perfect. Native speakers simply don't use English in that manner. The content may have been different but the style was the same.

It is a horrible illustration. In the illustration in the book.....it is a math problem......and if the kid is wrong.....he simply suffers some humiliation and the teacher is vindicated. But in reality.....a better comparison would be that of a chemistry issue. The kid insists that certain chemicals can be mixed. The teacher disagrees but allows the kid to mix the chemicals anyway. The kid causes an explosion that harms every single child in the entire school. THAT is the "just" way that God went about proving his sovereignty.

Another more apt version of the illustration would be if the teacher said, "Okay, class, we'll let Jimmy take it from here on. He may or may not know what he's doing, but he's your teacher until the end of the year. If he does a good job, I guess you'll be able to pass the final exam. Have fun." Meanwhile the other kids protest that they'd rather keep the adult teacher, but no one listens to them because Jimmy spoke up first about doing things his way and now they're all going to have to deal with the consequences of his smart little mouth.
