There is no shame in banning religious instruction from publicly-funded schools; that is where freedom begins: the freedom to think outside the constraints of religious chains.
BTW: No one teaches that humankind evolved from apes. You either didn't attend public school, or you slept through science class.
But shame on you for having strained the gnat and swallowed the camel; you overlooked the biggest sin of the United States: our war-mongering ways! That is something that needs to change, and no amount of prayer (in the schools or out) will accomplish it.

our schools are legally required to teach children that they evolved from apes.
We are apes in shoes.
This sort of self-loathing is the norm in evangelical christianity. Prayer time at house groups involves a lot of angst and hand wringing about how disgusting everybody and everything is. That is followed by nauseating outpourings about god's greatness accompanied with lots of interjections by all and sundry.
Get off your knees and do something useful instead of all this pathetic posturing.

So was God blessing our country when we ordered genocide against the native americans, built the most robust economy in the world on the backs of african slaves and practiced slavery longer and more harshly than just about anywhere in the world? Was God blessing us when we were filling the churches only to leave and deny the civil rights of others because of their skin color?
What about now? Is God blessing us when we launch a hellfire missle a decade afte 9/11 half way around the world and incenerate a van full of an innocent family because one guy in the vehicle spouted off some crap about jihad on the net?
Stopthetears, you are delusional and possibly in need of professional help, medication, or a reality check. We are all guilty as sin individually and as a country, as a Christian I would expect you to accept that first.
You need to wake up and realize, God isn't take sides in our petty disputes whether we pray like a crooked preacher on TV or refuse to acknowledge him. It is all the same.

Oh, great... now God supports the Republican perception. I guess He's white and will only bless the red states - you know which ones they are... the poorest in the country.
While you're apologizing, don't forget to thank the Lord for the health insurance that could be extended to you should you need it one day.

I would like to take this moment to apologize to the lord for telling the lord that Jehovah cleans my toilets.
He sells oranges at the U.S. border. Hell of a good fellow too! :D

It is a bit much to take, isn't it? "I despise myself and my country more than you do, therefor I am much holier." Nauseating is the word.
